Operation Snowball is a program that empowers youth to create a positive impact. Interested in stunting, tumbling, and showing school spirit!? Fall Sideline Cheer clinics and tryouts are coming up in the beginning of May and are open to both boys and girls! Clinics are Monday 5/4 - Thurs 5/7 6-8pm in the Commons. Tryouts are Friday 5/8 6-8pm in the Commons with results of team placement emailed that evening. No previous cheer experience? No problem! During clinics you'll work on required skills such as sidelines, the Fight Song, a dance, tumbling, stunting, and jumps. Please be sure to have an updated physical on file in order to participate!! Help make a difference through the power of sports! Citizens of Metea and Unicef are hosting a used sports equipment drive from 4/22-4/29. Drop off gently used cones, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, kickballs, etc. from 7:00-7:25 am in the LMC. All donations will go to World Relief to help support immigrant and refugee families.

Today is Wellness Wednesday! During Mustang 30 you will watch a video highlighting what staff do for their own stress relief. The tip of the day is stay physically active. Exercise releases endorphins which are natural mood boosters. Aim for 30 minutes of exercise per day and find activities you genuinely enjoy. It could be as simple as taking a walk with a friend. Mindfulness helps students manage stress- try deep breathing exercises, meditation apps, yoga, or journal for a few minutes daily. Our blood drive is going to be here before we know it- get signed up today! Hosted by our Aspiring Health Professionals club, the blood drive will be Tuesday, April 21st periods 1-7 in the Aux Gym. March 23rd-27th Metea Valley celebrates World Language Week! If you are in a language class and/or part of our multilingual program, there will be a variety of activities taking place in the classroom. If you are not, you can still participate by enjoying delicious food in the cafeteria, listening and attempting to recite the pledge in various languages and look for small flags hidden around the building that will earn you a prize if it is returned to G220!

Fun Fact for World Language Week: There are 79 Spanish speaking students at Metea. Can you guess where the majority are from? (pause a moment) Here in Illinois!

It's officially Spring and that means it's time to clean and declutter. Students can help out by checking the lost and found table at door 19. We have an abundance of coats, hats, water bottles and other clothing items. We also have a variety of airbuds and jewelry in the main office. Anything not claimed at the end of the week will be donated.

Freshmen Stugo is reminding and inviting everyone to drop your used pop tabs into the small baggie posted in your classrooms--doesn't matter which one, just remember to take a second and instead of throwing them away, add them to our collection for Ronald McDonald House. This organization provides a "home-away-from-home" for families with ill or injured children receiving hospital treatment. They offer free or low-cost lodging, meals, and support services near hospitals to reduce financial burdens, keep families together, and help children heal. The tabs are sold to local recycling companies, generating money to cover operating expenses like electricity and meals, helping keep houses free or low-cost for families. The more tabs we collect, the more we can help these families through a very difficult time.

Youth and Government had an amazing weekend in Springfield! All of our bills passed, one by overriding the Governor's veto. Ma'li Simmons served as the Chief Editor of the press and Rachel Chen served as the Supreme Court justice! Metea won more attorneys awards than any other school and Rachel Chen, Danielle Cheng and Sanjana Harish won "Thunderdome" which made them the TOP attorney group in the state of IL. Congrats!

Interested in how medications are made? Come join Girls in Engineering Mathematics and Science - GEMS, this Tuesday, February 24th in Room G228 at 2:30, to participate in their compounding lab, where they will calculate dosages and test different chemical vehicles to create the best medication for a patient. Hope to see you there!

It’s day two of Scholastic Journalism Week! Today’s theme is "Reporting in the Fire." Journalism takes the courage to ask tough questions and shine a light on stories that people in positions of power would rather stay hidden. Our student journalists work hard to be the voice for Metea Valley students, especially when the topics are difficult. See that bravery in action by checking out the latest updates on Metea Media, and consider joining the staff by signing up newspaper, yearbook, or media production for next year.

Congratulations to the boys swimmers on their performances at the IHSA Sectional this weekend! All swimmers had season and lifetime best performances. A big shout out to State Qualifiers Colin Louden for his state qualifying swims in the 200 and 100 freestyle and Sean Siwicki, Nico Delgado, Alex Bounds and Colin Louden in the 200 freestyle relay! Best of luck at the IHSA state championships on Friday!

"EIGHT TO STATE . . . Your Mustang Speech Team finished in 2nd place of 21 teams competing in the IHSA Sectional Tournament hosted Saturday here at MVHS. In doing so, we qualified eight events through to the State Tournament in Peoria on Feb 20-21!!!
