The U.S. government has a vested interest in Israel as it’s in a strategic location with the strongest ties to our government. Our media, our president and politicians are complicit in spreading lies and propaganda on behalf of the Israeli government. So what exactly is the truth? What about the Israeli hostages in Gaza? Bring them home!
Let’s start by understanding what hostages and prisoners are. By definition, hostages are people who have been kidnapped and held, whereas prisoners have (by whatever judicial system is in place) committed a crime. Hostages can be utilized for bartering, to make trades with the opposing side, for leverage. Hamas has already begun releasing hostages, and has begun making requests of Israel, however the Palestinian prisoners in Israel oftentimes are not criminally charged and do not get a trial. So why are the Palestinians considered prisoners yet the Israelis are considered hostages? This casts an implicit bias that the Palestinians are criminals and the Israelis are innocent when they are both in the same position. This is yet another example of bias in the words used to dehumanize Palestinians. Additionally, there are numerous first hand accounts of Israeli hostages being treated well whereas Palestinian prisoners are currently suffering under collective punishment.

For example: post-9/11, Iraq, Iran and The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea) were all considered terrorists and part of the “Axis of Evil” by then president George W. Bush. This encouraged the start of the 2nd Gulf War, in which the United States overthrew and killed President Saddam Hussein. An Iraqi leader in a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.
Palestine does NOT have a military. Israel has an incredibly strong military that is backed by American tax-payer dollars and the current President of the United States, Joe Biden.
People have been utilizing the term “terrorist” to gain wider, blanketed support. If Israel calls Palestinian self-defense “terrorism” it is easier to accept the rhetoric that Israel is simply defending itself. In truth Israel is persecuting a land and a people that have no army, that are already in an open air prison, and that have no defenses coming in via land, sea or air (because those routes have been blockaded by Israel).

- None of the five hospital buildings identified by Hagari* (IDF spokesperson) appeared to be connected to the tunnel network.
- There is no evidence that the tunnels could be accessed from inside hospital wards.

Bottom line, this was a fabricated lie that targeted the most vulnerable at Gaza’s most advanced and best equipped hospital. Israel’s constant bombing of hospitals is widely considered to be a war crime and part of its genocide on the Palestinian people.
On October 17, 2023 the doctors of Al-Shifa Hospital made a press conference among the corpses after the injured and dead were brought there following the Israeli attack on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital. This incident killed more than 500 people.

Do you condemn Hamas?
Do Israelis and Israel supporters get asked to condemn their government and the IDF for their war crimes? It’s only Palestinians who are asked to condemn themselves. The western world and mainstream media all say that Israel has a right to defend itself. Why is that not the case for Palestine? Why does the slate get wiped clean on 10/7/23 and we can’t talk about the 75 years of a forced occupation and deplorable conditions leading up to it?
The difficult part in answering this question is that although many Israelis and Jews feel gutted about the number of casualties, hostages and feelings of unsafety from 10/7, it pales in comparison to how Palestinians, particularly Gazans, have been treated throughout the generations. Many more Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli government, oftentimes through illegal means, with no condemnation to the Israeli government. Their land has been stolen and they are imprisoned and heavily monitored. On a normal day, IDF drones fly frequently all day and night to monitor Gazans. In the West Bank, Palestinians are prohibited from walking down many streets. There are different rules and different treatment of Palestinians and Jews in Israel. It is beyond unfair that a Jewish person from Brooklyn, whose lineage is European, can easily get Israeli citizenship whereas Palestinians with demonstrated lineage to the land, cannot even set foot in most parts of Israel. This is in addition to having their ancestral homes stolen by occupiers, and if they hadn’t been stolen yet, they get constant attacks from settlers and harassment from IDF soldiers. This is why people are calling this an apartheid.

Zionism is an ideology that believes that Jews are a nationality as well as a religion and that they deserve a state in what they believe to be their ancestral homeland of Israel. There are left wing Zionists that believe in trading land with the Palestinians for peace and there are right wing Zionists who are in power now with Netanyahu and his Likud party. All forms of Zionism gives Jews power and privilege over Palestinians.
