AGENDA

  • Reflect on Dezaiah’s contract
  • Look at Numicon together - look at in holidays
  • Planning Folder to be compiled  - check if this will be before the holidays
  • Assessments / Reporting
  • Strand - Judith BT time

Dezaiah

Had some really good days last week. Lots of praise and continuous use of his contract. Today he was more disruptive, tiredness may have been a factor.  He begun to argue. This has not been common in his behaviour before. I dealt with it by giving him a choice.

Numicon

  • Will look over during the school holidays.

Planning Folder to be compiled

  • Next week - Make sure it has required documents etc -
  • No time as had parent teacher interviews - need to check if Ilisa requires this before the holidays.  If so, a MUST DO next week.

Reporting

Mid-year reports not sent out prior.  All going OK.  Identified the parents concerns as my own concerns in report - i.e. dealt with already.

Completed 4 - 1 to go.

Will go over plan in the holidays - Judith happy to plan as long as she has the unit and resources.  Will need pre-assessment and post-assessment

RESOURCES

OBSERVATION TIME & FOCUS

  • Week 10 Tuesday - reading- at 11:50 Guided lesson. Judith to monitor Room 6.

Visiting

WHAT WENT WELL

  • Routines are becoming much more clearer for the children. They know where to books for marking and what to move onto when they have finished an activity.
  • The desk point system is working really well at the moment. The children are encouraged to get their whole table ready and organised before the bell so that they can have a point. They are also encouraging each other to work quietly and focus on their work.
  • I have had some good comments on my blogs this week from the senior staff. I have been ensuring that I revisit this every week.

WHAT COULD GO BETTER

  • Mat manners. Lately, especially today the children have been really restless on the mat. I am trying to go over the ‘give me 5’ rules, giving lots of positive praise and giving regular movement breaks.

  • Look at Numicon together - look through box, material etc
  • Staff Meeting - Walk through
  • Planning Folder to be compiled
  • Assessments
  • Appraisal - 16th March

Report Writing

  • Meet with Jo to discuss etap.
  • Need to sit with Ilisa to go through the data that needs to go on etap
  • Jo - went over assessment to put in the report, where to go on etap to put in comments etc.

Steps:

  1. Graph of anniversary and mid-year anniversary - completed
  2. Go through Profile Learning Foldes of anniverary and mid-year anniversary children.  Check order of contents - This has been completed.
  3. Most important are these assessments: The follow assessments first: Running Record, Maths Profile, Writing Sample (taken out of their book or writing sample.  Suggestion to do whole class as 9 reports are due.  Have writing sample template.
  4. Complete rubrics of writing and reading.  Use different coloured pens or highlighters.
  5. Other assessments to complete: Handwriting sample, oral language, click lists, phonics ( sometimes strand maths, inquiry)
  6. Load all data onto etap - Look at Assessment Checklist that Ilisa sent out.
  7. Go into Learner Hub - Enter OTJ for reading writing and maths
  8. Go into Markbooks - Enter data as per Assessment Checklist.
  9. Look at previous last report and look at the ‘next steps’.  Hopefully they have achieved this and this can be positive comments to put in first.  If not achieved - say ‘continue …’
  10. Reading/Maths/Writing - Where they are at, attitude comment, what they can do; next steps (get this from the rubrics)
  11. Helen and Brittany to come up with an Inquiry comment for Term 2 (include swimming and social relationships/care)
  12. To do reports - Go to Learner Hub, Click Assessments, Click down box of anniversary or mid - make sure in 2016, click on the icon beside the person and you’re in.
  13. Levels are Level 1 / Level 1.
  14. OVER SAVE.
  15. GENERAL COMMENTS: - Character, attitude overall, social relationships with peers,  following instructions, sitting on mat, work habits, presentation of work, helpful, self-manage, belfast motto - care,
  16. Student comment - What they enjoy about school, what they are good at, what they would like to get better at, what are they proud about - themselves.

Planning Folder to be compiled

  • Next week - Make sure it has required documents etc.

FOCUS NEXT WEEK

  • Assessments for end of March (Week 8 - 25th March)
  • Start making sure assessments up to date - work through profile book (blue)
  • Anniversary and mid-anniversary reports
  • Class teacher arranges interview times
  • try and keep on that specific day (25 March)
  • Allocated 3-6pm (last one 5:40pm)
  • Allow 15-20 minutes (no more than ½ hour)
  • Observe Helen and other teachers (Ilisa) interviewing - for ideas.
  • Set up a plan - show me.
  • possibility that you give report  beforehand.
  • Complete by Friday Week 7 for Jo or Ilisa to check
  • Sorting our Reading and Maths groups - perhaps interchange
  • PHonics

RESOURCES

OBSERVATION TIME & FOCUS

  • Observation when swimming finishes
  • Week 7 - morning routine
  • Week 9 - reading

Visiting

WHAT WENT WELL

  • Use of hands up chart. This is nonverbal. When children call out on the mat they are totally ignored and their name is written in the box. This means I am not interrupted and the lesson can continue. The children calling out can see the warning and as soon as they correct their behaviour and put their hand up I can rub off their warning.

WHAT COULD GO BETTER

  • My morning routine is very long at this point. It can sometimes take me right up to 9:30 and cut into my writing time. This is something that I am thinking about at this point in time.

Goals? I am not sure how to approach this at this point.

Maths programme: Where do I start?

  • Use the graphs for their goals; match up these with your assessments/observations to date e.g. look through writing books, quick running records, maths - perhaps do some quick snapshots.
  • Maths time - aim to get as many snapshots as possible.  Have very quick hotspot game/activity, then set up maths rotations - dice games, board game, murtles, cards - games you have already taught.  Catch up on Wednesday next BT day.
  • By the end of the year I will have moved to Stage ? in Numeracy.
  • By the end of the year I will have completed all of the Number Knowledge in Stage ? in Numeracy - need to check with Ilisa on this wording (child who has already achieved Stage)

  • Jess - Week 3
  • Give notice
  • Week 4 - Helen to observe morning routine - 9-9.30am
  • Week 5 & 6 - reading lessons - Helen & LMS

WHAT WENT WELL

  •  Reading programme is going well so far. I am trying to manage the noise level during this time. I am also trying to monitor the way they are spending their time at this point.
  • Suggestion to have a shaker/triangle, light noise that can be heard that you shake and this tells the children they need to use inside voices. Your expectation is that the noise goes down straight away. Three chances - completely quiet 5/10 minutes of complete silence.  If not spend playtime inside practising.
  • I noticed the children were not stopping and listening when I have given them an attention cue. We rehearsed this and they are much better at stopping. Keep repeating - Y chart

WHAT COULD GO BETTER

  • Managing Dezaiah’s behaviour, still being disruptive. I am in the process of creating a class contract with him with some kind of extrinsic reward.
  • Mat manners: children are still not showing mat manners. I am using the GIve Me 5 chard as a prompt at this stage.
