Task 18

You like cooking. Write a letter to your friend and send him / her the recipe of your favourite dish.

Dear John,

Thanks for your letter. It sounds like you’re enjoying yourself at university. Anyway, here’s the recipe for the apple pie that you asked for. It’s cheap and also easy to make.

First, you need about ten large cooking apples and some sugar as well. Peel the apples and cut them into pieces. Then, boil them with the sugar until they are soft. You could make some pastry or buy ready-made one. Roll the pastry until it’s thin and put it into a greased dish. Put the apples into the dish, too. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top and cover it with more pastry. Put it in the oven at 180° C but don’t leave it for too long. I always serve it with fresh cream. On the other hand, it tastes great with ice-cream.

Well, let me know how your exams go and enjoy the apple pie.

             Love,

             Jane

Dear John,

Thanks for your letter. It sounds like you’re enjoying yourself at university. Anyway, here’s the recipe for the Chef’s salad that you asked for. It’s cheap and also easy to make.

First, you need to boil two eggs for 10 minutes. Then, cut eight lettuce leaves and put them into a salad bowl. You need 150g of Edam cheese and four slices of ham. Cut the cheese and the ham into small pieces and add them to the bowl. Slice the cucumber and cut the tomato into pieces, then add them to the bowl. At last, slice the eggs and put them on top of the salad.

Now you need to make some dressing. Put 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon of tomato ketchup, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of vinegar into a small bowl and mix them well. Add some salt and pepper. Finally, pour the dressing over the salad. I always serve it with fresh bread.

Well, let me know how your exams go and enjoy the Chef’s salad.

             Love,

             Jane
