Goal
This is a scavenger hunt strategy game against the other team. You will earn money by completing challenges. Money will let you take transportation between resorts, and purchase control of resorts.
The winning team is the team that controls the most resorts at the end of the game.
Game Overview
The game takes place over three rounds: 9:30-11:45, 12:15-2:30, and 2:30-4:45. You must stop for lunch from 11:45-12:15 and may not use transportation or complete challenges.
Making the game work
- Whenever an event, challenge, or game object contradicts these rules, these rules are overruled.
- To help run the game, teams must tell game control as they move around when they move resorts / parks / Disney Springs. Sharing GPS location is encouraged. They will also need to communicate with game control to get game information associated with locations, and decisions.
- Areas / services requiring money or special permission to access including: parks, hotel rooms that are not ours, Shades of Green, Minnie Vans, rented bikes, and dinner shows are off limits. In general, teams may only spend real money during a round something explicitly directs it.
- This is a custom, largely untested game. When rules questions or issues arise, reach out to game control. Please also keep game control up to speed on what is going on.
At the beginning of each round
- Each team receives $350 (except Round 1, where each team starts with $1000)
- Challenges at each hotel reset
- Teams may keep an active challenge through rounds.
- Each team is informed of the other team’s location
- A team who was on transportation at the end of Round 1, and thus started lunch late, will start Round 2 however late they were to getting of transportation for lunch + five minutes.
- Teams may be on transportation at the end of Round 2 into Round 3 with no penalty.
Resorts
In-play resorts
Challenges boards are at the following resorts:
- Grand Floridian (GF)
- Polynesian (Poly)
- Contemporary (BLT)
- Wilderness Lodge (WL)
- Fort Wilderness (FW)
- Pop Century and Art of Animation (AoA) (considered one resort)
- Saratoga Springs (SSR)
- Old Key West (OKW)
- Port Orleans French Quarter (POFQ)
- Port Orleans Riverside (POR)
- Riviera (RIV)
- Caribbean Beach (CB)
- Coronado Springs (CNS)
- Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKV)
- Beach Club / Yacht Club (BC) (considered one resort)
- Boardwalk (BW)
- Swan and Dolphin (SD)
A resort with a DVC component is considered one resort. Any lobby with a front desk may be considered the front desk area.
Teams may go to other areas (park entrances, Disney Springs, All Star Resorts) for transportation, challenge completion, or other reasons, but these locations will not spawn new challenges, cannot be claimed, etc.
Claiming a resort
Teams gain control of resorts by “claiming” them. The team with the most controlled resorts at the end of the game wins.
To claim a resort, a team must:
- Physically be at that resort
- A team is “physically at a resort” when they are inside any air conditioned building associated with the resort.
- Declare (to game control via discord) that they are investing in the resort, and how much money.
- The money will be deducted from that team’s wallet.
- At any given time, the team that has invested the most money at a resort controls it.
- Control of each resort is public information. Shifts will be announced on Discord.
- The exact investments in a resort will be revealed to a team physically at the resort.
Completing Challenges
- Go to a “challenge board” located at the front desk area any in play resort.
- Discord game control. He will provide the “challenge menu” for that hotel and details for each challenge.
- Discord game control your selected a challenge (if any) and how much money to bet.
- The bet money will be removed from your wallet.
- Discord game control upon completing a challenge. You will be awarded your bet back times the multiplier.
Polynesian example challenge board
Challenge | Multiplier |
Get Leid | 1.5 |
Fine Print | 1.75 |
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a dole whip? | 2 |
Challenge information example
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a dole whip?
Purchase a dole whip. Before you start eating, guess how many licks / bites with spoon it will take your team to finish the dole whip. You win the challenge when you complete a dole whip within 25% of the predicted number or licks.
Additional Challenge Rules
- A team may have one challenge active at a time.
- A team may give up on a challenge at any time, but will not receive their bet back.
- Once a team takes a challenge from the challenge board, it will not be replaced until at least the next round.
- All challenge boards have a maximum of three challenges on them.
- Minimum bet is $250, unless a team has less than $250.
Transportation
- Teams may use any transportation that could be freely available to resort guests.
- The first team to arrive at a resort receives a $350 Welcome Bonus
- To be “at a resort” a team must enter any air conditioned building associated with that resort.
- When a team earns a Welcome Bonus, the bonus and its resort will be announced over Discord.
- Teams must pay for transportation depending on the type, and how far they go. Costs are per group (usually the whole team) being transported, however if a team were to split up individuals may have to pay. Costs are:
Transportation | Cost |
Internal resort bus | Free |
Any other bus | $350 |
Any boat | $100 |
Skyliner | $100 / stop |
Monorail | $100 |
Walking | free |
Example: You board the Skyliner at Epcot, stay on through Riviera, and get off at Caribbean Beach. The cost is $200 because your trip length was 2 stations.
Example: You board a friendship boat at the Epcot International Gateway and stop at Boardwalk, Beach Club, and Swan and Dolphin before getting off at Hollywood Studios. You pay $100 because boats don’t care about distance.
Example: You board a friendship boat at the Epcot International Gateway, stop at Boardwalk, and get off a Beach Club. You pay $100. You get back on a boat at Beach Club and go to Hollywood Studios. You pay another $100 since you got on again.
Example: You board a bus at Old Key West and stop at two internal resort stops. If you get off at either of these, the bus is free. However, if you stay on the bus and go to Disney Springs, the cost is $350 (note you could have also walked or taken a boat for less!)
- If a player needs to return to Grand Floridian to rest or exchange items, they can come back and then rejoin their team without paying transportation costs. They cannot help their team (e.g. visit resort challenge boards) during this time. Consider calling game control for a possible direct pickup in the rental car.
Unaffordable Transportation
- If a team cannot pay for transportation, they may turn an active pin slot inactive in exchange for one bus, boat, or monorail ride, or any number of uninterrupted Skyliner stops.
- If a team discovers they took a form of transportation that they could not afford they must do one of the following
- Undo: immediately return to the boarding point, taking no game actions until they return. (They do not need to pay for the return transportation)
- If they have taken no game actions since boarding the transportation, flip an active pin slot to inactive as described above.
- If they have taken game actions, flip an active pin slot to inactive, and take a 10 minute time penalty upon arrival. (May not take game actions)
Pins, Curses, and Boons
Trading Pins
- Teams will start the game with five Disney trading pins. Each pin occupies a “pin slot”
- Teams may trade pins with Disney Cast Members, following Disney pin trading rules.
- Pins may be traded at any time, even if they are in an inactive slot, but trading pins will not reactivate a slot.
- When a pin is used to buy an item from the Pin Shop, its slot becomes inactive
- All pin slots become active again at the start of a round.
- Pins are shared by all members of a team.
- The color of a pin is the three most prominent enamel colors. (A pin could simultaneously be GREEN, RED, and ORANGE)
- Teams may turn an active slot inactive at any time for a cash injection of $250.
The Pin Shop
- Upon boarding any form of transportation up to a maximum of once every 20 minutes, teams may Discord game control and receive a semi-randomized “Pin Shop.” Teams may spend their pins on items in the Pin Shop as long as they stay on that mode of transportation.
- The Pin Shop will contain 2-5 purchasable items. They will be:
- Boons: things to help your team
- Curses: things to hurt the other team
- Events: things you can trigger that will effect both teams
Buying things from The Pin Shop
- Tell game control what you’re buying with what pins in what slots. Only pins in active slots may be used to buy things. These slots then become inactive.
- Only pins that have not been used to buy things may be used to buy things.
- Slots become active again after the round ends AND pins have been traded.
- Items will cost from 1-5 pins.
- Pins used to buy something must share at least one color (e.g. all pins must be GREEN.)
Example Pin Shop
Item | Cost |
CURSE: Spyglass (3 uses) On request, game control will reveal the location of the other team | 1 pin |
CURSE: Fairytale Friends: for the next 15 minutes, two members of the opposing team must hold hands, two members must skip whenever walking outside. | 1 pin |
BOON: Night Owl – You may play for 10 minutes past the end of round 3 | 3 pins |
BOON: Pot of Gold – Your team immediately gains $800 | 2 pins |
EVENT: Trigger a Battle | 1 pin |
Remember: the Pin Shop will be different each time you get on a mode of transportation. Once a team views the Pin Shop, you cannot request to see it again for 20 minutes.
Battles
- A team (Challenging Team) may find an opportunity to initiate a battle. If they do, they will be given the names of three battles, but not know the exact rules of the battle before starting.
- Challenging Team picks one of the three battles to challenge with, or cancels the battle.
- The non-challenging team (Responding Team) will have 5 minutes to either accept or decline the Challenging Team has chosen battle. This decision will be made before full rules are revealed. Nonresponse will be considered a declination.
- To accept, Responding Team decides how long the battle lasts from three options given by game control. Then Responding Team decides if the battle will start in 5, 10, or 20 minutes. Responding Team messages game control acceptance, duration, and start time.
- If the battle is declined, the challenging team will receive $500.
- game control will announce the battle rules, start time, and duration on discord.
- game control will announce the winner at the conclusion of the battle.
- Battles may end in a tie.
- Battles will pause over a round break.
- Prizes for winning a battle are based on the round the battle is COMPLETED:
- Round 1: $1000
- Round 2: steal $500 from losing team
- Round 3: steal a resort from losing team
- Losing team chooses a resort they control. Winning team now controls that resort. Winning team has a $500 investment lead in that resort.
