!!! Warning for child abuse, physical and mental!!!
Maggie’s life was tragic like one found in a Dickens novel. Mother not wanting her, father realizing he hadn’t either shortly after being left, even her name hadn’t come from them, instead being given by the nurse who’d helped deliver her. And all this only helped to set a precedent for the rest of her life.
Her father, filled with loathing at the responsibility he didn’t really want, took it out on her with ease by way of physical abuse, flying off the handle at the smallest perceived slight or whim. This, naturally, left the girl a mess, quiet and anxious from her earliest memories, though despite this Maggie also developed a kind and considerate personality. Though even with this, no one ever seemed to want to come to her house after school or for parents; unknown to her, more a decision from parents rather than their children, who always thought something just wasn’t quite right with her father. But surely, whatever it was, his own flesh and blood would be spared. And if she wasn’t… no need to cause a fuss.
As easily assumed, there was plenty of reason to cause a fuss, as shortly after her 13th birthday her father got the genius idea to put a large life insurance policy on her. Then, shortly after, in the wake of the worst tempers he’d ever inflicted on her, dragged her out to one of the nearby woods’ pits, and told her not to move; he intended on collecting that policy.
And then, for the first time perhaps ever, she didn’t listen. It’d been a herculean effort to get up, and she was only able to do so after sitting out there all night, but she knew it was either die there or die somewhere else, hopefully later.
Later, in fact, turned out to be much later, as within a few hours of aimless, painful wandering, she’d stopped in the path of a tunnel that led to who-knew-where, which began to emit the strangest light… accompanied by the sound of running horses.
and then she got sent to magic anime disney academy yayyyy

Personality
Maggie is a sweet, eager young girl who loves to make friends, and as she spends more time in Twisted Wonderland lets herself be curious and want to explore. Conversely, she is also very timid and jumpy, always walking on eggshells even when unwarranted, and easily scares. She hates the idea of offending or bothering others, and when she believes she has becomes overly apologetic and quiet. Being younger than all the others, she wants desperately to impress them and be seen as ‘cool’ like them, and is stubbornly independent when it comes to living on her own, despite the fact she doesn’t quite know how. She’s also averse to physical touch. When others are kind to her, even briefly, she grows attached to them, and loyal to a fault, not wanting to be alone again, especially not here.
Grim: Initially, Maggie was scared of Grim, both from his perpetual volume and the fire magic he used without care. But, as they got to know each other during the events of Book 1, she quickly grew fond of him, assuming herself responsible for him. She tries to make sure he behaves–being polite, using proper table manners, getting him to do homework–to not much success, and he gets her to grow to be more assertive; how’s he supposed to be the world’s greatest mage if his henchman’s a wreck! Overall, they are very close, and when one’s in trouble, the other’s right there with them, if not going to get help.
First Years, overall: Maggie quickly endeared herself to the group, and them to her. They function both as friends and older siblings to her, and when they notice her faltering are quick to help, even if sometimes for selfish reasons, and set her upright again. Getting into particulars, Ace is the most teasing of them all, more used to being the baby himself, though is also fiercely defensive of her. Deuce shares the latter sentiment, and while he’s an only child sees Maggie a bit the sister he never had. Jack, meanwhile, sees his younger siblings in her, and both helps her out and works to help her grow stronger in a variety of ways. Epel likewise sees his family members in her, but works more together with her to grow stronger. Sebek, initially, Maggie is scared of, and he frustrated with her skittish demeanor, but eventually they grow close, defending each other from other classmates’ unkind comments.
Ortho: The two are very good friends, initially bonding over being younger/considered younger than all the others
Kalim: The two aren’t very close, but when they’re around each other, he dotes on her, seeing her as one of his many younger siblings. Maggie, while fond of him and appreciative of his approach, is also a bit overwhelmed by his energy and casually grand manner.
Jade and Floyd: Surprisingly, the two are a bit more gentle/kinder to her, due to her age (see Terror is Trending story). They also do this to help get in her good graces, so that if they need her/want to have her as a part of a scheme, she’ll do so more easily. Maggie, of course, doesn’t suspect this, and at points defends them to other students, primarily during incidents where Jade employs his fake crying.
Ruggie: The two aren’t close, but still spend some time together now and then. During these, Ruggie sees and treats her as one of the kids from back home, preferring to teach her how to take care of/defend herself rather than doing it for her.
Riddle: For a while, Maggie was quite scared of Riddle, specifically his hot temper and strictness. But around the end of Book 2/Book 3, she grew more fond of him, and sometimes helps him tend to his dorm’s hedgehogs.
Trey: Like Jack, Trey sees his younger siblings in Maggie, though his approach is more to take care of her if/when applicable rather than having her learn.
Vil: Maggie quite admires Vil, thinking him cool and elegant, and sometimes tries to imitate him. Vil, meanwhile, sees her as a source of endless potential, and when appropriate works to nurture it, and quickly finds out just how little she knows about self-care/maintenance, clothes, hair, etc.
