Core French

Through the exciting new textbook “Express” this course continues the development of oral communication, listening comprehension and reading and writing skills.    Prerequisite:  None

FSF 1DW

Pre-Advanced Placement French

Students may choose to apply for the pre-advanced placement French course in Grade 9. More emphasis will   be   placed   on   opportunities   to   develop   stronger   writing   and conversational skills and to prepare students to take AP French in Grade 12.  Application forms are available on the school’s website.  Enhancement fee: $17.

FSF 1PI

Core French

Using a practical approach, incorporating themes such as friends, food, music, and sports, this applied level course develops recognition and use of fundamental French language structures.   Prerequisite:  None

 

GRADE 10

FSF 2DI

Core French

Reading, writing and speaking continue to be developed through they study of a diverse selection of interesting readings. Enhancement fee: $17.  Prerequisite:  FSF 1DI or FSF 1DW

 

FSF 2DW

Pre-Advanced Placement French

Students   will   continue   the   pre-advanced  placement   French  course.  Students will read a short novel in addition to the continued development of the four skills of language learning.  More emphasis will be placed on opportunities to develop stronger writing and conversation skills and to prepare students to take AP French in Grade 12.   Admission into the course will be based on teacher approval.  Enhancement fee:  $17.

Core French

Continuing the practical approach and emphasizing the recognition and application of language structures, this course will further develop the student’s ability to read, write, speak and understand everyday French. Enhancement fee: $17.

LWG BDI

German

This introductory German course will allow students to communicate using simple language.  They will also explore the culture of German speaking countries.   Prerequisite:  None

Core French

This   course   draws   on   a   variety   of   themes   to   promote   extensive development of reading, writing, listening and oral communication skills. A diverse selection of readings as well as films and music are studied. Enhancement fee: $17.

Travel Languages

Learn  the  languages  of  the   world!   Imagine  being  able  to communicate the basics in multiple languages.   This course in an open language course with a focus on tourist language skills.  The emphasis will be on oral language skill in German, French, Spanish and Italian and will also include the study of cultural differences in various European countries.  Prerequisite:  None

In this course, German students will further develop and apply their oral skills, and explore aspects of culture.

Prerequisite: LWG BDI

GRADE 12

FSF 4UI

Core French

Films, magazine and newspaper articles, novels and plays – a variety of current, up-to-date material as well as traditional French literature is used as the basis for the refinement of speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Enhancement fee: $17.

Prerequisite: FSF 3UI or FSF3UW

FSF 4UW

French - Advanced Placement

Students will focus on preparation in this final course before the AP French exam.  All learning strands will be reviewed and learning will be solidified in preparation for the AP exam, which is written in May.  Enhancement fee: $17.

Prerequisite:  FSF3UW or Permission of the Department Head of Languages

Continue learning the languages of the world and delve more deeply into   themes   such   as   Canadian Consular services and Eco-tourism, plus an introduction to Mandarin/Cantonese.  This  course focuses on tourist language skills.   The emphasis will be on oral language skill development.   Prerequisite:  None  (IDP 3OI is recommended)
