Task

Identify as many examples as you can of gender socialization, social class socialization, educational socialization, and any other socialization you see in a multiple mall stores or in the different departments of a major department store.

Process

1. Review Agents of Socialization Rubric

2. Go to a local mall or major department store (Parkway, Grossmont, Fashion Valley, etc. or Target, Walmart, etc.)

• Analyze the advertisements, products, placing of items, pricing of items, customers, salespeople (for example, who gets to sell what?), any societal values / norms that are reinforced, etc.
• Write your observations on a separate sheet of paper.
• Take a photo(s) of yourself at the location and photos that go with and help to explain your observations.

3. Create a Google Doc

• Go to How to create, share and publish a Google Document (Screencast)

• Click on “Untitled Document” and name it
  per#_AgentsSocialization_lastname (ex: 3_AgentsSocialization_Cooley)

• Go to “share” and make the doc “Anyone With The Link”

• If you are working with a partner you may share a document

 Share = email all as collaborators

4. Document Url (website address) Information Form

• Open your doc and copy the url (website address)

• Provide Mr. Brazeau your web site address by filling out the form - Agents of Socialization Document Address (Link)

5. Complete Your Observations

• Organize and explain your observations
