Dear Marczi –

The days are passing very pleasantly here – we are having lovely hot weather – we play golf in the mornings – and the two hours spent in the open air are doing us a power of good. I spend the afternoons sketching outdoors – and we have an enormous number of letters which are being sent on to us – On the 25th of this month Princess Kara-Georgevitch^[1] is sending her car for us and we will be her guests in her beautiful villa – our address:

℅ Princess Kara-Georgevitch – fiorentina – Cannes – France –^[2] The Princess is an exceedingly delightful old lady – I painted her a few years ago in London [5857] – she has already arranged two big dinners in our honour. We will also take the opportunity to visit the Prince of Monaco, whom I painted 6 years ago [7899] – and on the 2nd of March we set off for Florence – for 8 days – and from there to Pest – I am unsure as yet whether I will paint a half-length portrait of the Regent, for Parliament [110886] – the country is very poor and I can’t take money for it – Lucy has sent 30 pounds for poor exiled Hungarian children – and I am going to paint a 200-pound sketch for the same cause when I get back to London. I can’t not do it. Balló^[3] – who I heard from today – has donated 100 copies to the nation which he has been working on for 15 years and has built three rooms in the museum expressly for the purpose. Hubay has been Director of the Music Academy for over 40 years^[4] – and is now retiring – he deserves it – and rest assured – I will partake

in the honours he receives – do not forget that I am a British subject. But the country holds me in high esteem – and now all the members of the Hungarian artists’ fraternity have elected me individually as an honorary member – accompanied by the most delightful letter, which I value greatly – one must be patient – and it will be a great honour if my portrait of the Regent is hung in perpetuity in Parliament [110886] – I am waiting for news from Pest and will let you know –

Important events will take place in London on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee – on the 22nd of March I will be presenting Henry and Patrick to the King^[5]

Last year Paul – and Stephen were presented^[6] – which means that they may appear at court in court dress and with swords – Henry has given another important lecture – the factory is doing well – and the young Guinness cousins might [sic]^[7] a factory to produce radios, with Henry as director. Only today I heard that a large Radio company had ordered 10,000 valves from Hivac. Up until now, everything they make has been put back into the business, to buy new machines – but this year they will pay dividends to the shareholders. It makes me happy to know that the futures of these two or three siblings are assured.

begging letters from Hungary to which there is no way to reply – I will do my best to make sure the press doesn’t write about me in Pest. Just imagine, a lady – a member of the Hungarian gentry – wrote to me from Miskolc with a photograph of the portrait of the little Bihari boy that I painted in 1893 [possibly 13667] – I think the boy went mad and has died and they want to give me the painting. How did it get there? So Egerer is now financially ruined^[8] – appalling – How are you – your business and Szerena^[9] – you really must come to London this year – when will you be in Munich? Write

Délután vázlatozok a szabadban – s rengeteg sok levelezésünk van melyeket utánunk küldenek – E hó 25 én Karageorgevics Herczegnő autóját küldi értünk s vendége leszünk gyönyörű villájában – czímünk –

℅ Princess Karageorgevics – fiorentina – Cannes – France – A Herczegnő végtelen kedves öreg Dama – őt néhány évvel ezelőtt Londonban festettem – máris két nagy vacsorát rendezett tiszteletünkre. Ezen alkalombol – a monacoi uralkodot is meglátogatjuk a kit 6 évvel ezelőtt festettem – március 2ikán pedig Florencbe indulunk – 8 napra – s onnét Pestre – még bizonytalan hogy ezen alkalombol festem e a Régenset a Parlament reszére egy mellképet – az ország szegény s nem fogadhatok el pénzt – a szegény kiutasitott magyar gyermekek reszére Lucy 30- fontot küldött – s én egy 200- fontos skizzet festek ezen czélra ha Londonban leszek. Ezt meg kell tennem – Ballo – akitol ma hallottam – 100 copiát ajándékozott a nemzetnek melyeken 15- éven át dolgozott külföldön – s saját pénzéből a museumban 3 termet épített e czélra – Hubay pedig 40 éven túl Igazgatója a Zeneakadémiának – s most fog visszavonulni – megérdemli – s légy meggyőződve – magam is részesülni

De az ország engem nagy tiszteletben tart – s most is az összes magyar művészek engem egyedüli művész tiszteletbeli tagva választottak – gyönyörű hangu levél kisereteben mit nagyra tartok – türelmesnek kell lenni – s nagy megtiszteltetés ha az én arczképem a Régensről örökké lesz a Parlamentben – várok Pestről hírt s értesíteni foglak – Londonban az Ezüst Jubileum alkalmából fontos ügyek fognak megvalósulni – Henry és Patrick fogom marczius 22én a Királynak bemutatni

Tavaly Paul – és Stephen lett bemutatva – a mi azt jelenti hogy udvar képesek udvari ruhában karddal jelennek meg – Henry ismét fontos felolvasást tartott – a gyár halad – s lehet a fiatal Guinness cousinok egy gyárat melyben rádiót fognak gyártani, melynek Henry lesz a vezetője. Éppen ma hallottam hogy egy nagy Radio czég 10.000 valvot rendelt a Hivac gyártol. Idáig minden hasznot a gyárra új gépekre fordítottak – s az idén ősszel fognak a részvényeseknek fizetni. Boldogít hogy e két vagy három testvérnek jövőjük biztosítva lesz.
