Course Description:

Intermediate II is the second part of intermediate level in Latina University lower-division Spanish program. This course continues to develop on the skills acquired in Intermediate Spanish I, but students begin to work with more advanced goals, including an integrated use of various tenses. 

Course Objectives:

The program is organized so that the students can acquire a holistic foundation of knowledge based on four areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing—putting each of these in practice in any place or situation. Upon completion of the Spanish as a second language course, the student should accomplish the following objectives:  

• The student can now follow a wide range of sequential oral directions from various familiar contexts.
• The student is able to follow simple written instructions up to ten different steps. The student can also read two – three paragraph standard formulaic texts for both specific and general ideas.
• The student is able to relate simple sequences of events in the past, present and the future.
• The student also has an advanced level of simple conversations skills, being able to interrupt the conversation and make arguments while debating a controversial topic.
• The student is able to write short personal narrative, descriptions, and explanations.

• Complementary pronouns – direct and indirect
• Use of the imperative to give advice, instructions, and orders.
• Review the preterit and imperfect
• Use the subjunctive to give advice and express wishes
• Immediate past: acabar de
• Prepositional verbs de: olvidarse de, tener ganas de etc.
• Perfect preterit for actions that started in the past and continue into the present.
• Preterito pluscamperfecto
• The passive se: En Francia se fabrican perfumes.
• Use of lo: lo mejor, lo peor, etc.
• Simple future: talking about plans and predictions
• Use of the conditional
• Tongue Twisters
• Vocabulary

Activities

Role play, conversation, presentations, research projects, written and oral assignments, dynamic activities, etc.  

Methodology

A.- Inductive: Teaching from the specific to the general.

B.- Deductive: Teaching from the general to the specific.

C.- Comparative: Learning by comparing.

D: Communicative: Using grammar as a guide for oral expression.
