Tecaboca Boys Camp (Submitted 5/19/2106) Cabin Counselors

General Summary:

The Cabin Counselor is responsible for the implementation of quality program activities for campers of Tecaboca during Boys Camp. These duties include, but are not limited to: organization and implementation of a successful cabin life for all campers and co-counselors, supervision of campers, enforcing policies and procedures, creating a fun and interactive environment for campers, and any temporary duties necessary to provide a clean and comfortable environment for staff and campers.

Duties:

1. Cabin Life: create a cabin environment where campers and co-counselors will not only be comfortable, but will thrive. This includes, but is not limited to quality programming during cabin time (i.e. wake up, camp chores, FOB, evening prayer.) Cabin Counselors should take an active role in each cabin member’s camp life.

2. Program Time Assignments: lead, or assist in leading and supervising, assigned program areas during regular program blocks throughout the day and on specialty days. Cabin counselors will also be responsible for conducting an opening and closing camp-wide campfire, and must participate in assigned duties during evening camp-wide activities.

3. Camp Chores: during daily camp chores there is both appropriate and inappropriate counselor participation. It is the responsibility of the cabin counselor to know the difference and to act accordingly. Simply standing and “supervising” is rarely the correct answer.

4. Supervision: it is the responsibility of the whole staff to assist in supervision of campers, whether or not the campers are in the counselor’s assigned cabin. Cabin counselors must take an active role in every camper’s experience during camp. Cabin counselors must be knowledgeable in conflict resolution to maintain a cohesive community amongst the entire camp. 5. Policy and Procedures Enforcement: cabin counselors must be fully versed in the Tecaboca Summer Staff Handbook, as well as any additional skills provided during staff training, and must work to fully comply and encourage compliance with the policies and procedures of the camp.
