   Walking on the Water (Matthew 14)

The children will learn about Jesus' miracles.

Compare what Jesus did with what happened to Peter? 

  1. Review bible vocabulary words.
  2. Review Jesus' miracles.
  3. Ask the children if they have ever seen anyone walk on water?
  4. The teacher will read aloud “Walking on the Water.”
  5. The teacher will discuss the bible story with the children.
  6. Have the children ask and answer the following questions: Where did Jesus' walk? Where did Peter walk? Why did Peter sank on the water?

  1. Brainstorm words that describe bullying.
  2. Ask: How does words make you feel?
  3. Have the children act out bully v. not with puppets and discuss.
  4. Have the children identify which puppet display an appropriate behavior in a the classroom and which puppet display an inappropriate behavior in a classroom.
  5. Discuss  rules we need to follow in the classroom.
  6. Read aloud “Hands Are Not For Hitting.”
  7. Discuss the story with the children.
  8. Ask: What makes a good friend?

The children will learn how Jesus feels children.

How did Jesus feel about the children?

 

  1.  The teacher will ask the children the the following questions: Who would you like to meet in person? Why? How would you feel  if your parents take you to see that person and their security do not let you see him?
  2. The teacher will read aloud the Bible story “Little Children Make a Good Friend.”
  3. Discuss the story with the children.
  4. Have the children answer the following questions: Who went to see Jesus? Why did the disciples stop the children? What did Jesus do to solve the problem? How did Jesus Feel about the children? What did the children do when Jesus said “Let the children come to me”? Do you agree with what the guards did to the children? Why?

What would you recommend for someone to do on a special day like Valentine’s Day?

  1. The teacher will display hearts and will ask the following: What do you think of when you see a heart? How do you know someone loves you? How would you describe how you feel when your parents tell you they love you?
  2. The teacher will explain that hearts are a signs we use to say " I love you." then will explain that valentine's cards have hearts on them because we send them to people we love.
  3. Have the children tell how they show someone they love them.
  4. Distribute activity p. 87, glitter, glue, markers, and ribbon.
  5. The teacher will explain that we are going to make valentine's cards to give to the people we love.
  6. Discuss with the children who they would like to give it to.
  7. Have the children tell what people special thing they recommend others to do.
  8. Have the children print their hands on construction paper.
