Budapest, March 5th 1903

My dear Friend,

I heard today that you were in Vienna and so am hurrying to put a long-held plan into effect and to congratulate you heartily on your latest award – may you wear it with pride and in good health! It is only now that I send you this greeting since I did not know which part of the big, wide world you were roaming in and creating your masterpieces. The Palákovitses^[1] gave me two other pieces of good news. Firstly,

that you are looking healthy and well – because to tell the truth, last time we met, you gave an impression of exhaustion and fatigue from all your hard work, which pained me. The second [piece of good news] is that you are coming to Pest, albeit for a very short visit. May I ask you, please, to try and make time for me? Write and let me know if you can have lunch with me, on any day that suits you, or where we could meet in the evening.

I was also very pleased to learn that your dear wife,^[2] that paradigm of womanhood, is healthy and blooming and I wish from my heart that everything may go well, both for you and for us – since the stork is due to visit us both at around the same time.^[3] 

My sweet, good wife^[4] is – thank God – pretty well, as is my little brood.  

I would be so obliged if you could remember to bring a few portraits – not as

gifts, necessarily – but at least so that we can see them!

Édes Barátom!

Ma hallottam, hogy megint Bécsben és sietek régebbi tervemet megvalósítani és neked legujabb kitüntetésedhez szívből sok szerencsét kivánni – viseld egészségben és örömben! Nem tudtam merre a nagy világban koborolsz és készíted műremekjeidet, azért kellett ezt mostanáig haladatnom. Még két örömteljes hírt közöltek velem Palákovitsék. Egyik

hogy fényes, jó színben vagy – mert az igazat bevallva nagyon bántod, mikor legutoljára volt szerencsém hozzád, hogy a sok munkából fáradt megviselt benyomást tettél; a másik, hogy nem sokára, ha rövid időre is, Pestre jössz. Nagyon kérlek, keresd az alkalmat, hogy viszontláthassuk egymást, írd meg nálam ebédelhetsz-e bármely napon, mely neked kellemes, vagy hol találkozhatnánk este.

Örömmel vettem azt a hírt is, hogy K. nőd, az asszonyok e mintaképe, oly jó színben és jól van, szívből kívánom, hogy nálatok, úgy mint nálunk is minden jól menjen! Mert körülbelül egy időben várjuk a gólyát.

Az én édes, jó feleségem is hál’ Istennek igen jól van, szintúgy a kispulyák mind.

Ha szerencséltetsz, ne feléjts néhány arczképet hozni – ha ajándékba
