My dear Marczi –  

Tomorrow – Monday we set off for Venice where we will be for 8 days – our address

Villa Malcontenta –

Italien – An old mediaeval palace half an hour from Venice in peace and quiet – I will work on some sketches.

the time here – three weeks – has passed quickly and very pleasantly – without any excitements which is important – and I think that in the fullness of time we will feel the benefit of the bathing.

I have a number of important matters waiting to be sorted out in Venice – because next year there will be a big exhibition

next year you must definitely come here – The scenery is beautiful – excellent for the nerves. Good news from London – Hivac was a great success at the trade fair – and as Stephen^[1] said – this – year – the big factories have recognised Hivac’s genuine [illegible positive attribute] – I hear from Budapest that the Horthy portrait [110886] will be shown at the Nemzeti Szalon in October along with a few other paintings of mine^[2] and that the regent will open the exhibition you must be there – you should talk to Ballo^[3] –

Appalling – the Queen of Belgium’s death^[4] – I knew her – in October this year I was due to go to the palace in Laeken to paint the king – and now this will be put off for some time. It’s exactly a year ago – that the present king^[5] – in the presence of the queen presented me with their most senior order of merit – a sad tragedy – and how will the queen mother, who is a broken woman, bear this family blow^[6] – why do things like this happen?

The royal family are – people who – in a humanitarian – and moral sense live very elevated lives – and yet it is precisely them whom such sorrow strikes? All one can do is give thanks to the almighty if we enjoy good health – life is a struggle but there are many reasons for contentment – We set off tomorrow.

I hope to hear good news from you – the monthly packet has gone to the sanatorium –

Italien – Egy régi középkori palota fél orányira Velenczéből [sic] csendben – néhány tanulmányt készíthetek.

az idő – három hét itt gyorsan s nagyon kellemesen múlt – minden izgalmak nélkül a mi fontos – s hiszem hogy később fogjuk a fürdők hatásat érezni.

Velenczébe több fontos ügyeim elintezése vár ream – mert jövő évben nagy kiállítás lesz

néked jövő évre okvetlen kell ide jönnöd – Gyönyörű vidék – pompás az idegekre nézve. Londonbol jó hírek jönnek – a Hivac nak sok sikere volt a kiállításon – s mind [sic] Stephen mondta – az – idén – a nagy gyárak elismerték a Hivac komoly [-----entiáját] – Pestről hallom hogy Horthy arczképe a Nemzeti Szalonban lesz octoberben kiállítva néhány más képemmel s a kormányfő fogja a kiallítast megnyitni néked ott kell lenned – Ballo–hoz kell fordulnod –

Rettenetes – a Belga királynő halála – ismertem őt – az idén octoberben kellett volna Laeken kastélyban a királyt festenem – s ez most jó időre elmarad. Éppen egy éve – hogy a jelen király – a királynő jelenlétében adta át legnagyobb rendjelet – szomoru tragedia – s nem tudom vajjon az anya királynő a ki amúgy is összetöröt [sic] miként fogja kibirni ezen családi csapást – miért is van ez így?

A királyi család magas Humanitarian – s moralish magaslaton elő – emberek – s ép velük oly sok szomoruság? Áldani kell a mindenhatot [sic] ha jól megy egészségünk – az élet küzdésében oly sok szép megelégedés van – Holnap reggel indulunk.
