How many counters are there now?  

  1. Have the children sing “Let’s Us Sing the Numbers.”
  2. Have the children arrange numbers 1-10 in the correct order.
  3. Distribute a ten frame to each child and two-color counters.
  4. The teacher will place 6 yellow beads in a string then, add 1 red bead.
  5. Have the children tell how many bead do I have in the string.
  6. Have the children place 6 yellow counter and count them, have the children add 1 more.
  7. Ask: How many counters are there now?
  8. Tell how we made a group of seven 7.
  9. Ask: How is seven counters different than six counters? Is a group 6 greater than a group of 7? How can you can and show seven objects?
  10. Continue combine different groups of counters to make a group of 7.

  3. The teacher will place beads in a string then, add  different number of bead to add to 7 bead.
  4. Distribute a turtle, and counters to each child
  5. Tell the children a story problem.
  6. Have the children listen to the story and add counters as the turtle lays the eggs. Stop at 6 eggs.
  7. Have the children count the eggs.
  8. Ask: How many eggs did the turtle lay? Is that a group of 6 or 7 eggs?
  9. Continue with the story.
  10. Have the children add one more egg.
