Welcome to our Media Center

The media center houses a collection of over 13,000 books.  We serve approximately 500 students and 85 staff members.   The collection is organized into 8 areas: Fiction, Nonfiction, Everybody, Reference, Biography, Professional, Graphic Novels, and the Literacy Room.  Our computer stations allows students to search the online catalog, electronic databases, take reading programs quizzes, and to complete research & multimedia based class projects. Students visit the media center individually or as a class to participate in informational and collaborative lessons.  Our story time area is used to teach literature appreciation in a cozy setting.  All materials are circulated using a Biometric finger scanning system.

Locate books in the online catalog using Destiny Discover.  Electronic books are available through our various vendors as listed on the media center web site.

We look forward to seeing you and your class during your visit.

Media Center Requests

Finding a book:  The Destiny Catalog system has 365/24/7 school and off-campus accessibility.  You can search for books using keywords, titles and author’s name.  Richland2.follettdestiny.com

Student hold requests: Up to 3 checked out items can be placed on hold at a time.  When an item is ready for a student, an email is sent to their teacher requesting the student be sent to pick up the item within 3 school days. Items that are not picked up within 3 days are reshelved or held for the next person in the hold queue.

Requesting materials for the classroom:  The Destiny catalog system allows you to place a request for a checked out item using your network ID information. If an item is checked in, place a request by e-mail.  A professional request of 72 hours or more will ensure that materials will be ready for your lesson plans.  If you would like an item from another Richland 2 media center please contact the Lake Carolina Upper Campus media specialist by e-mail to assist you.  It is advised that you keep these items in a secure place to avoid REPLACEMENT costs.  If you decide that you no longer need these items, please relinquish your request within 48 hours.

Lost Books: You are responsible for replacement costs of ALL lost books from both Lake Carolina Upper Campus and other district media centers.

Literacy Room

The literacy room is a collection of materials for teacher use that support the ELA, math, science and social studies curriculums.  Fiction and nonfiction novel set titles are available.  Each book and item in the media center has a barcode and must be checked out for inventory purposes.  Please be sure to return all items on the computer before placing them in the bin for shelving.  Students may checkout any of the novels in the literacy room by request.

See the Literacy Room Handbook for more details.

All About Reading Counts/FAQs

Overview

What does Lexile mean?

The Lexile Framework is a reading measure that matches books to readers.  It is unique because it uses a common measure-a Lexile measure-to assess the level of the reader and the level of the text. By placing the reader and text on the same scale, the Lexile Framework provides a more accurate match between the two. www.lexile.com

How do we get started?

You will be able to mark your classroom collections. You can use colored dots on the spines like the media center as well as to write the lexile level in the inside of your books.  (Note: Students can take quizzes for books that are not in the media center or school, i.e. public library or from home.)
