"The public ministry is not a special order, distinct from and holier than the common order of Christians, as the priesthood of the Levites was, but is an office of service”

Walther used to say in his lectures: “The analytical method attempts to find the truth. But in theology we cannot deduce the means from the purpose.”

"If, in the doctrine of God, you take not all thoughts from Scripture, but also give your own thoughts room, you do not know whether you are not blaspheming God in the most frightful manner."

Theology only from Scripture  –

Sola Scriptura!

“If we assumed that the universe is in space, we would have to teach the infinity of the universe.”

Infinity, space

Dr. Walther used to say: The devil wanted by presentation of offenses with the mystery of godliness "God is revealed in the flesh”.  Blessed is he that is not offended! (Matt. 11:6)

Then faith often will be engendered, as Walther used to remind us, even before the word “faith” has been mentioned.

Walther used to tell the story of a man who was troubled by the expression “obedience of faith.”

“To the papists the contritio is not something that God does through the Law, but what man himself does. To them repentance is so much a penance, a satisfaction.”

Contrition, repentance;

Pieper’s source for Walther not identified  – could it be unpublished lectures, or perhaps Baier-Walther?

Lectures, 1874

Walther (Lectures, 1874) is entirely right in saying: “The presence of the body and blood of Christ in the Lord’s Supper must not be based on the glorification of the body of Christ. … But this is a false support, and false supports are just as dangerous as open denial.”
