My dearly respected Friend,

The reason for my not replying until now to the letter you did me the honour of sending is because it has only just come into my hand, since—on business for my newspaper—I have just spent a few weeks in Poland, in Krakow, Warsaw and Gnydia [sic].^[1] This last place, created by the Poles, as if by magic out of nothing, has been turned into a port city of American dimensions, which has already outpaced Danzig.

The purpose of my visit was to win certain Polish sympathies for our country, and in this I was largely successful. But let me not trouble you with such details. The main thing I wanted to say was that had I known such a kind letter was on its way to me, I would have left instructions for my post to be forwarded.

And now to my main point: we cannot begin to say how delighted we are at the prospect of being able in future to reproduce your London works

in colour. We are waiting for the plates of Princess Elizabeth [10531]. We feel sure that the photographer in question will do a good job, and if so, for the future, he will make similar three-colour versions of other works of yours, at our expense—assuming, of course, that you release the originals to us. If you are satisfied with the results, please be so good as to make available to us write to me with your address.

As I mentioned, until such time as we are able to publish this and future colour pictures, we will be delighted to reproduce assorted paintings by you, in monochrome, on the inside covers of our publications. As you will have seen, this is also a good way to present things. All we need for this is a simple photograph, which of course we will be happy to return to you. We are currently in the process of putting together eight issues, so if, when you get this letter, you would be so good as to send us some photographs, we will be delighted to publish them (they do not have to be fancy photographs; they can be as simple as you like, and quite small, too, as long as they are suitable for enlargement).
