This is a preparatory drawings for a formal three-quarter-length portrait of Lord Sheffield painted in 1904 [12808].

There exist two other portrait studies in oil, both on board, one three-quarter-length [2986] and the other half-length [2761], the latter of which was discarded by the artist, but rescued by the sitter’s daughter. De László also kept a copy of the official portrait, cut down and with a plain background [2759].
