Acts 12
Walter Van Wyck
Israel is still in God’s heart.
Paul and Barnabas were separated to God’s work, but it was not an easy journey.
The Good News is serious, yes, but joy in the Good News should overshadow all else
“So spoke (vs 1) – “Filled with joy (13:52)”
Phil 3:5-6: Paul had the credentials to speak in the synagogues.
Vs 2. The word for “stir up” used here indicates overthrow. Jesus/The Holy Spirit stirs up not to overthrow but to invite.
Rom 10:19-11:1
The Word of His Grace (13:2)
· John 1:1
· Nothing innately part of Paul and Barnabus
“Preach the Gospel” means “announce the good news” (see versus 7, 15, 21, 25)
Vs 8. A certain man ß a phrase to pay attention to
Luke 5:19-25
2 Chron 33 (Manesseh)
Will we continue in our own way or cast all before the Lord?
Vs 19. People are stalking Paul, seeking to harm him.
Paul has a pattern
Flee --> Preach --> Flee --> Preach --> Stoned --> Preach --> Go back to previous cities --> strengthen the believers that resulted from previous preaching
Vs 22. When & Where is the kingdom of God? (see John 18:13)
Vs 23. Elders, plural. Church, singular.
