Module 7 Overview: Dream Design

Module Essential Question:  “How do successful people use visualization to achieve their goals?”

Visualization is an important skill that when developed and applied can have significant benefits.  It is one of the most misunderstood secrets of the ultra successful and there is so much science to support its effectiveness at helping us reach our goals that it’s no wonder the Navy Seals, Surgeons, elite athletes, and high performers in any field utilize it!  In this module, students will practice several visualization techniques, analyze the scientific research to learn how it works, creating and fulfilling a compelling dream life on a vision board (that actually works, based on solid scientific research).

Lesson Description

• L1: Why do people use visualization to reach their goals?:  In Lesson 1,  students will learn the key components to visualization. They will analyze five successful people’s stories in order to write an explanation of how they’ve used it to become more resilient, self-disciplined, and successful despite any challenge.  By experiencing several live visualization experiments, students will justify the importance of visualization and how it can benefit them in their academic career and life.  
• L2: What research evidence is there for visualization and how it works?:  In Lesson 2, students will learn key visualization methods by trying to spot an item through a collage of other objects and distractions in order to conclude that having a clear focus of what you’re looking for helps your brain locate it.  Students will also analyze four visualization research studies in order to explain how visualization can help us in sports, health, fitness, and in learning skills. Furthermore, students will learn how to apply these techniques in their personal life.
• L3: How can I use visualization to achieve my dreams?:  In Lesson 3,  students will see their teacher model the creation of a vision board to learn the techniques to make their own. Students will create their own vision board that addresses four domains:  personal, career, contribution, and adventure goals.  Lastly, students will present their vision board to their peers for inspiration, feedback, rapport-building and appreciation.  
• L4: How can I make my vision board dreams come true?:  In Lesson 4,  students will analyze and apply the scientific research on visualization to help them identify 5 steps for manifesting their visions.
