[The video shows the BYU-I campus. President Gilbert is shown standing in BYU-Idaho Center, talking to the camera.]
President Clark G. Gilbert: Brigham Young University-Idaho is not just a university. It is as Elder David A. Bednar said, “A Disciple Preparation Center”. Tens of thousands of students from around the world attend this university online and on campus to gain knowledge and to develop into better disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Your education at BYU-Idaho has been made possible in large part [off-screen] by the tithes contributed by countless faithful members of the church from around the globe. [The screen shows several videos of individuals in diverse countries smiling.] Their investments in you are great blessings that should not be taken lightly.
[BYU-Idaho Center is shown full of students, gathering for devotional. Later, gatherings of students in several countries are shown.]
All students who attend BYU-Idaho, whether in Rexburg or far from this campus as online students, are invited to live the standards known as the Honor Code. [On-screen.] These standards are very similar to those found in the church’s For the Strength of Youth pamphlet and are probably consistent with the standards you’ve been living throughout your life.
The standards of the BYU-Idaho honor code include living honest, [off-screen] chaste, and virtuous lives. Obeying the law, using clean language, respecting others, living the Word of Wisdom, participating in weekly church services, observing the dress and grooming standards, and encouraging others to live the Honor Code.
[Each part of the Honor Code is shown listed over a photo of the Kimball building on BYU-I campus.]
[On-screen.] I invite you to reflect upon how living the Honor Code strengthens your classroom learning, your church service, and the social environment of this university. These standards are in place to promote an atmosphere where the spirit of the Lord can flourish.
[The video shows a woman knocking on a bishop’s office door. They greet one another smiling. The video shows the woman and the bishop reading a scripture in a one-on-one meeting.]
[Off-screen.] Your worthiness in living the standards of the Honor Code during your time at BYU-Idaho is also a way of honoring those faithful tithe payers who have helped make it possible for you to receive this education.
[President Gilbert is shown standing in the I-Center.]
It is also a sign of appreciation to the Lord for his blessings. Years ago, President Henry B. Eyring gave an address regarding the future of BYU-Idaho entitled, “A Steady Upward Course”. In that prophetic address, President Eyring promised that those graduates of BYU-Idaho…
[Henry B. Eyring speaks while his photo is shown, continuing the sentence where President Gilbert left off.]
President Henry B. Eyring: … will become legendary for their capacity to build people around them and to add value wherever they serve … I might not be able to show it to you, and I may not be able to prove it to you, but you will feel it. There will be a spirit here, I so testify because of the love of God for all of His faithful children, and those blessings will be poured out here in rich abundance.
[The video returns to President Gilbert standing in the I-Center.]
President Clark G. Gilbert: I know that what President Eyring said about BYU-Idaho and those who graduate from this university is prophetic. This is truly a special place. I encourage you to faithfully choose to live the standards of the Honor Code while you study at BYU-Idaho and throughout your life. I know that you will be greatly blessed for doing so.
[A reference to Eyring’s talk appears using the words, “A Steady Upward Course” Address given by Henry B. Eyring September 18, 2001.”]
