Reavers in West Virginia

At about 6 pm on November 12th, the placid Virginia coastline is disturbed by a violent green storm in the sky above. Like the Chitauri attack of over three years prior, the other side of the universe disturbs the Virginia Beach coastline, drawing in over 10 miles of coastland outside of Hampton and taking out half of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Agencies on hand head towards the area nearly as soon as news breaks, but the Army seems to have had a heads up

As dawn breaks on the Virginia coastline, a maelstrom obscures the settling sea, pulling under any ships that can't get out of the water. From the sea emerge an army of humanoids which proceed to overrun first responding agencies on scene. But what's in the water is far worse.

Main characters (damage range): i.e. Clint Barton (3-7)

Monster in Question: Reavers (Firefly)

Threat level: Physically high, non-magical

Location: Aurora, WV

Timeline:

  • 6 pm 11/12 -- A portal to the negative zone
  • 6 am 11/13 -- Water orcs climb out of the water and attack first responders and military agents in the area. Ursula attacks ships in the area with massive tentacles but manages to retreat out into the deeper sea before being destroyed.
  • 11/15 -- No one's heard from the people in Aurora West Virginia (population 202) in a few days, and a few truckers have gone missing since check-in at the nearest weigh station. So has a CNN news crew, aerial view shows an empty town in chaos

PREMISE

Reavers have taken over and decimated the small town of Aurora, WV. Travellers through the area seem fine if they do not stop or leave the interstate, but several truck drivers, state police, and a news crew have gone missing. Aerial view of Aurora shows a litter strewn town, but significant tree coverage makes concrete analysis hard.

Your team, should you have a death wish, has decided to get to the bottom of things. This is definitely a fight wherein reinforcements may be needed, though only about a dozen Reavers have landed here, they have been working on making more.

They seem to be using local mineshafts as a basecamp, though some newly made reavers cling to their old houses and lives, so looting might be as dangerous as fighing these things. Though raiding may get you guns or possibly survivors (there's about two dozen, if you can keep them alive)
