Frank and Suzanne Agnew moved to Pittsburgh in 1955 after a career in banking and insurance that began in Chicago in 1928 and had stops in New York (1929-1933), St. Louis, Missouri (1934-1952) and Grand Rapids, Michigan (1953-1954).

Frank accepted an offer to become the President (and CEO, although they didn’t use that title in those days) of the Peoples First National Bank & Trust Company.  The introduction had been arranged by Harold Helm, then Chairman of the Chemical Bank in New York, who had been a long time acquaintance.

Mergers were difficult in the strong regulatory environment of the day, but a combination with the Fidelity Trust Company was none-the-less effected in 1959.  The merged organizations became the PITTSBURGH NATIONAL BANK, now known as PNC BANK.

This is a tribute to the man who helped make it happen and became an ardent Pittsburgher in the process.
