1. PURPOSE:
1.1 To ensure that Chief Officers are aware of potential or real emergencies.
2. DEFINITION:
2.1 Active Participation: Shall mean crews are expected to be actively involved at an incident for more than 30 minutes.
3. RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1 The Platoon Chief or Assistant Platoon Chief shall ensure compliance with this procedure.
4. PROCEDURE:
4.1 The On-Call Senior Officer shall be notified by pager or telephone of the following circumstances as directed by Command/Senior
Officer:
4.1.1 Upon the active participation of a third station at a fire. 4.1.2 Critical Injury or death of a civilian(s) at a fire scene. 4.1.3 Critical Injury of a Fire Department Employee. 4.1.4 A fire that results in the displacement of occupants. 4.1.5 Major accident involving Fire Department property or vehicles. 4.1.6 Mutual Aid or paid service response to other municipalities. 4.1.7 Incidents that could become highly political or would attract significant media attention and/or scrutiny. 4.1.8 Flood Warnings. 4.1.9 When a Fire Prevention Officer or Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) is called for an Investigation. 4.1.10 As directed by the Platoon Chief, Assistant Platoon Chief or Chief Fire Prevention Officer. 4.1.11 All Senior Officers shall be emailed within 2 hours of any fires over $5,000 in damage, injuries to public or fire
fighters, suspicious fires or incidents that have been forwarded to the press or have the potential for press coverage indicating the following: I. Fire Cause II. Damage Estimate III. Injuries
4.2 The Chief shall also be notified under the following circumstances:
4.2.1 Critical injury or death of a civilian(s) at a fire scene. 4.2.2 Critical injury or death of a fire department employee. 4.2.3 Mutual Aid or paid service response to other municipalities. 4.2.4 Flood warnings.
4.3 The Chief, Deputy or Designate shall be notified by e-mail of the following circumstances:
4.3.1 Weather watches, warnings and terminations, unless in the opinion of the communicator, there is information in the
watches, warning or termination that is critical to community safety.
