A Narrative Speech

Due Date:  December 20

In this 1st person narrative speech, you will tell the story of how you grew to become the Santa Claus that we all know and love today!

To begin:

  1. Think about who you want your audience to be so that you can determine WHY you are telling the story about YOU:  children, parents, elves, future Santas, etc.

  1. What is the big message you want to convey through your speech? (EXAMPLES)
  1. being Santa is a big responsibility
  2. giving to others makes you feel good        

  1. Describe some experiences that you, Santa, had as a child that influenced you to want to be Santa one day.
  1. hobbies and interests you had related to the job of Santa
  2. experiences you had that showed hard work and selflessness
  3. encouragement you had from family/friends/teachers to help others

  1. Briefly explain how you got the job as Santa.

  1. Briefly describe what a typical day is like in the North Pole.

  1. Briefly describe the greatest experience you’ve had during your years as Santa.

  1. Wrap up your speech with a conclusion that summarizes your main point for telling your story.  Be sure you will leave the audience with a sense of closure

  1. Bring some visuals to accompany your speech.  Some ideas are:
  1. make a book of illustrations to accompany your story- drawn/printed
  2. dress in a homemade Santa Costume created by you
  3. design a poster or scrapbook with visuals of your life

Grading will be based on:

  • Speech Length - no longer than 2 minutes
  • Memorization        
  • Preparation
  • Volume and Enunciation of words
  • Eye contact
  • Posture/Gestures
  • Enthusiasm
  • Creativity in costume and props
  • Speech content
