VALUE FOCUS FOR NEXT TWO WEEKS:
From The Principal
Kia ora tatou katoa, Annyong Haseyo, Talofa, Malo e lelei, Bula vi naka, Kia orana Nga mihi nui ki a koutou, Namaste, Nihao, Greetings to you all.
Welcome to our Newsletter for this week. Winter is here well and truly.
Thank you to all the parents/caregivers who took the time out of their busy lives to attend the 3 way conferences on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings. We know that the children love to share their work at school with you so thank you again.
Recently we have had a large number of students arriving late to school. Please ensure that your child is at school by 8.45am at the latest so they are ready to start the programme at 8.50 am. If your child/ren are going to be absent please leave a detailed message on our answer phone, text or speak to one of the lovely ladies in the office to explain. We sometimes have over 30 children absent and it takes considerable time to check where the children are if we haven’t been notified. This is a Health and Safety requirement by law for all schools and we want your children safe.
A huge number of children have been coming to school sick with colds, vomiting and fevers, therefore we are having to contact families to pick the children up promptly. Please ensure that the school office has your correct contact details or you have someone that is able to pick your children up as we only have a small First aid room and no nurse or doctor, only three lovely office ladies with First aid certificates.
Lots of our staff have been absent as well and we have had to split up classes as we are unable to get relievers as they are in high demand at the moment. This situation is not ideal for the children or staff but that’s the best we can do under the circumstances.
A reminder that we sell beanies to keep our children’s heads warm at our Uniform Shop which is open every day.
Mornings 8.15 am – 9.00 am
Afternoons 2.30 pm – 3.00 pm
I am sorry this letter seems full of instructions but this is the only form of communication to the community that I can reach you all.
I hope the weekend is full of fun and laughter.
Kind regards
Trish Plowright
Principal

NEW ENROLLMENTS FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2016 AND 2017
Parents wishing to have their children attend Elm Park School must complete an application form for enrolment. If your child turns 5 this coming year or next year and we have yet to receive an enrolment form, please contact the school office for one or click here to download one. If you put your younger child’s name on the bottom of an older sibling form when enrolling, you still need to fill out an enrolment form. The best time to enrol your child is around their 4th birthday. If you know of children in your extended family, street or neighbourhood who are intending to enrol, please could you encourage them to do so early as class numbers fill up quickly.

Looking Ahead
Park safely and keep our kids safe
This year our school is participating in Auckland Transport’s ‘Safety at the School Gate’ programme. Drivers who stop in the wrong place to drop off passengers put the safety of children at risk. Parking officers will be on patrol outside the school this year and will be issuing tickets to drivers who park illegally.
The agreed approach is ‘zero tolerance’ – There will be no warnings issued, you will receive a ticket if you are double parked, parked on yellow lines, or over someone’s driveway – or for any other vehicle safety offence.
Please park legally to keep our children safe and to avoid being ticketed.

Focus on Children
Room 3 have been investigating how bubbles are made. We discovered that air stretches the bubble shape. We were able to use this knowledge for our art work. We mixed paint, detergent and water together and blew bubbles into the mixture using straws. When the bubbles were full of air and at the top of the container we pressed a piece of paper onto them.
We love our Hydrangeas!
