Course structure

Prihantoro will delve into the comprehensive framework of the summer school that stretches over six enriching days. Guided by experienced instructors, attendees will cultivate a deeper understanding of corpus linguistics and its relevance in contemporary research paradigms.

Introduction to Corpus Linguistics and Corpus Query Systems

Joyce Lim will introduce corpus linguistics and Sketch Engine (the Corpus Query Systems employed in this summer school). Participants will explore this tool, gaining insights into corpus analysis methods essential for linguistic research and applications.

Introduction to corpus query techniques

Niall Curry will lead the Corpus query techniques. He will introduce various corpus query techniques using simple search and CQL (Corpus Query Language). Participants will learn how to use these techniques to search corpora based on orthography, annotations (lemma, PoS, XML annotation, among others), or their combinations.

Introduction to frequency list and concordance

Gede Primahadi will introduce frequency lists and concordances, vital tools in corpus linguistics. Participants will learn how to utilize these resources effectively for analyzing language patterns and contexts. This session promises practical insights into linguistic research methodologies and applications.

Introduction to collocation

Gede Primahadi will introduce collocation analysis. Participants will learn how words tend to co-occur, revealing semantic, syntactic and lexicogrammar relationships. This session offers practical techniques for exploring linguistic patterns and meanings within corpora.

Diponegoro special lecture

Nial Curry will deliver a special lecture on Diponegoro in the field of corpus linguistics. Attendees can expect an insightful examination of this topic, offering valuable insights into the implementation of corpus techniques in applied research.

Idea Panel

Joyce Lim will lead the idea panel session, providing feedback on participants' selected corpus research plans submitted earlier. Attendees can anticipate constructive guidance from her expertise in corpus linguistics, enhancing their understanding and refining their research methodologies.
