Virtual Design Project – Miniature Golf Course (50 pts)

Client:     Owasso High School                       Target Customers:  Students ages 8 to 18

Problem Statement:  Owasso wishes to create an indoor / outdoor miniature golf course.  Administration is looking for design concepts from current students.  Your 4 person design team will compete with 6 other design teams to see who has the most creative, yet still buildable, design concept.

Design Statement:  Competing design teams will submit a concept design containing mini-golf holes illustrating the team’s overall idea for a EIGHTEEN hole mini-golf theme that will attract mall patrons.

Constraints:

1. All holes within a group must have a consistent theme.  The theme MUST be picked with a decision matrix.  There must be at least four possible themes, and at least 5 decision parameters.

2.  Each hole must be built on the same base.  The base must be 25’ by 20’ by 1’ deep.  There are no ‘parts’ or ‘drawings’ for this course.  Autodesk Inventor must be used, but do NOT use multiple pieces for any individual hole.  Design each hole in what part file.

3.  The portion of the hole where a player walks can be elevated as much as 5’ above the base, but appropriate safety precautions must be taken (fences, etc . . .).

4.  All components of the hole must be less than 10’ tall.

5.  Pathways as needed to move from hole to hole must be a minimum 36” wide.

6.  Holes may have animated parts, moving parts or water features.

7.  All holes will have a standard tee of pad and scoring podium (these parts will be provided by the project manager).

8.  All 3D modeling should be done to FULL SCALE.  Be mindful of scale and units!

Team Roles:

Design Process:

Step 1: Define the Problem

●     We are going to use the Mini-Golf Design brief.

●     Create Team Norms

●     Create Gantt Chart

Step 2: Generate Concepts

●     Brainstorming – Create multiple idea sketches describe design ideas.

Step 3: Develop a Solution

●     Individually create possible problem solutions. – Make thumbnail sketches.

●     Utilize Decision Matrix to choose final solution.

●     Make a final sketch including individual part sketches.

Step 4: Construct and Test a Prototype

●     Create all design project parts in inventor.

●     Create-  IPT and IAM files.

Step 5: Evaluate the Solution

●     Design Reflection.

●     Project Recommendations.

Step 6: Present the Solution

●     Create a powerpoint -  Virtual Design Project

●     Pages are to include

o     Step 1 – Design Statement, criteria, and Gantt chart

o     Step 2 – Brainstorming

o     Step 3 – Possible solutions, decision Matrix, and final sketches

o     Step 4 – Rendered or ray traced images

o     Step 5 – Reflection

Deliverables:

·        Create Team Norms

·        Create Gantt Chart

·        Decision Matrix with sketches

·        Inventor Parts/Assemblies

·        1 page Reflection (prompted questions in separate file given at a later date)

·        NO PPT due (we are limited on time)
