6th Grade Weekly Overview!
August 19-23, 2024
Course | Teacher | Here is what’s happening this week! |
ELA | Melanie Carpenter | This week in ELA, students will continue building foundational skills in grammar. We completed our first writing, our Reading and Writing Autobiographies, and moved briefly through the writing process, scratching the surface on what to expect this year with our formal writing assignments. We will peer edit and  apply our knowledge of revision work and how we can use our peers to improve our writing. As we move into book clubs in the next couple weeks, we will start our Deep Study of Character unit, deepening our understanding of character growth. |
Math | Steven Sarnie | This week in Math  we will be continuing to work on learning classroom routines and expectations with a focus on incorporating technology. Mathematically we will be bridging the gap between 5th grade math and 6th grade math. We will continue our practice and review of computing fluently with multi-digit numbers. Weekly Standards

Science | Andy Pond | What a great start to the Year! Â Science class has been having fun. Â We have been learning about Mr. Pond, ourselves, each other, and classroom routines. Â This week we will begin learning about general science and scientific inquiry. Â Students will imagine what a scientist looks like doing science and we will make some predictions about forces and motion involving Slinkys. Â We might even get to write lyrics about scientific inquiry. Â Feel free to email me with any science or general middle school questions. |
Social Studies | Robin Wilson | This week in Social Studies we will continue to focus on learning the classroom routines and expectations as well as building our classroom community. Â We are continuing with our study of the Paleolithic Age and moving into the Neolithic Age.
