9.1 Figure Identification Activity

Materials Needed

Directions

After learning about different types of angles, have students find those figures in their classroom.

  1. Students may be provided with a list of figures or you may prompt them to identify as many as they can. You may choose to include only the figures discussed in this lesson or open it to include all figures they know.
  2. Students should move around the classroom identifying places they find different figures.
  3. Record the figure and its classroom counterpart on paper or a whiteboard.
  4. Connect with a partner or small group and share what you identified.
  5. Compare your figure examples with your partner/group.

Enhance activity with technology

If you have access to a tablet with camera capabilities or other digital photography device, ask students to take pictures of the figures they find and share them. Students may add photos to a photo collage or a presentation and label them with the figure they represent.
