The children will become aware that our Thanksgiving celebration is a time when we thank god for all he has given us. 

 What are some of the fruits and vegetables we eat on Thanksgiving Day?

  1. Display an arrangement of fruits and vegetables available during the fall.
  2. Have the children observe, touch, smell, and taste the fruits and vegetables in the arrangement.
  3. Have the children tell how they smell, how they feel, and how they taste.
  4. Discuss the different items.
  5. Ask: If these foods are enjoyed in their homes.
  6. Discuss where they come from and how they get to your homes.
  7. Ask: How is the food a gift from god?
  8. Distribute Activity Page 27.
  9. The teacher will read aloud the first four lines.
  10. Have the children look closely at the picture . Ask whether someone can find one of the good things we like to eat on Thanksgiving Day on this page.

The children will be able to decorate a prayer card and learn a prayer they can say with their family and friends on Thanksgiving. 

Why did God give us food? 

  1. Talk about turkeys and explain that is one of the food we like to have at our Thanksgiving celebrations.
  2. Have the children describe a turkey.
  3. Distribute cut-outs of grapes, apples and turkeys and make a place mats to be use for their Thanksgiving feast.
  4. Distribute Activity Page 28.
  5. The teacher will read the prayer on the page.
  6. Have the children echo-read the prayer.
  7. Discuss the page.
  8. Ask: What good things God gives us to eat? Why God gives food? How do you show God you appreciate the foods he has give you.
