Budapest, August the 29th. 1932.
To Sir Philip Lásló [sic],
LONDON.
Dear Sir,
We have established a fund for the purpose of Hungarian artists fallen on bad times, by arranging charades and making collections and from this money we purchased pictures, statues and products of industrial art. These were distributed as prized in a lottery that we arranged last spring. This lottery yielded the sum of 20.000 pengös.
Now we are in the fortunate position to be able to buy works of art once more and we shall be able to arrange for a second lottery to be held in the course of next year.
The greatest difficulty of this movement is that we have not at our disposal the large sums needed to purchase the principal prizes which are the chief attraction to the public.
We appeal to you dear Sir, you who veritably personify Anglo-Hungarian sympathy and who are always so generous when a Hungarian cause or when charity is in question.
Would you kindly present our committee with one of your donations as principal prize in our lottery arranged for the salvation of art?[1] This would insure a great success for our next year’s lottery.
With your permission we are enclosing the Deed of Foundation of our movement for your further information.[2]
While interpreting the request of our Committee
We remain
with sincere appreciation
