Release 9 - Known Issues
Graphical:
- LODs (level of detail) objects are still being implemented so players may occasionally experience objects visually ‘popping’ out of existence or between visual states.
- The lighting and shader systems have undergone extensive changes. Some creatures. objects, and clothing may appear unusual in low light settings.
- Camera will occasionally clip through walls when near them.
- When using a multiple monitor setup there may be issues with the default window placement in windowed mode.
- Quadruped NPCs will stand too close to the Avatar during combat creating sorting issues
- Capes will sort through some clothing and armor.
Connectivity:
- The following firewall ports must be open for the Launcher and Game Client to run properly.
Launcher:
TCP Port 5074
UDP Port 3544`
UDP Port 6881
Connect to instance/Game data:
UDP 5055
UDP 5056
UDP 5057
UDP 5058
64-bit specific issues:
- Cloth simulation is not working properly. Cloth sim elements on clothing, like capes, may not appear properly or appear at all.
- General performance is lower than expected.
Gameplay:
- Housing Lots are first come, first serve. Claiming a new lot will relinquish your claim on your previous lot. The lot owner can grant individual characters rights to manage the lot, but anyone can still move through the house/lot.
- Changing the house on a lot, or un-claiming a lot, will clear and return currently placed decorations to an invisible “bank” inventory. Use the /bank command to reclaim these items. This functionality will likely change at some point in the future.
- Falling damage is now in the game and being tuned. At present even falling into water can be dangerous. Watch your step.
- New Avatars now begin with several default decks, but most players will eventually want to build a custom deck and skill loadout. See the Player Instructions for a detailed description of this system.
- The city of Ardoris may now be reached by boat from Kingsport and by Lunar Rift from Owlshead. The city is not considered fully stocked or populated yet, and its famous twin castles are still off limits.
- Not all skills are balanced, implemented, or working as intended yet. Skills missing an icon on the skill tree are not finished and should not be used, though you may need to put a point in an unfinished skill to meet the requirements of a finished skill.
- Armor and weapons currently take durability damage in combat but repair skills and services are not in-game yet. Damaged equipment must be replaced.
- Some doors can only opened by using a switch (sometimes hidden). Currently, there are not visual cues accompanying a locked door, but a locked door sound will play when attempting to open one.
- Weight and gold values for objects throughout the game are still being adjusted and are not finalized.
- It is possible to give items to another avatar through the Secure Trade interface. Right click on the Avatar you wish to trade with to bring up the context menu. Gold trading is not yet implemented.
- Switching locale for your system (for example switching from English to German) can lead to character problems which can be fixed by deleting your character.
- Summoned creatures (like fire elementals) may have have difficulty negotiating some terrain and will periodically warp to your location to keep up.
- The medium armor tree has been removed and replaced with the Tactics tree. Chainmail armor is now classified as Heavy.
- Dual wielding is now possible. At present attacking with an off-hand weapon requires use of a specific skill from the Tactics tree. You must also have a main hand weapon equipped to use the offhand attack skill.
- Team based PvP is available at the College of Arms off the main square in Ardoris. Team members do not need to be in your party, though inviting them may aid coordination.
Chat, Dialogue and NPCs:
- Ardoris NPC conversations are still in a very early alpha-quality state; the main storyline path is still off limits, as are the two castles and the NPCs within, and no other quests have yet been added. This will continue to improve in R10 and beyond; your input to NPCs that we track will be a key part of this.
- Many books have been added to the game world, some by the team and some by the players. The prologue and first two chapters of “Blade of the Avatar” are available in book form as well. They can be found for this release for sale at the Peladjar Inn in Ardoris.
- The option that formerly turned off all conversation keyword highlighting and ability to click them as underlined words has been changed to only turn off the ability to click on highlighted keywords. Keywords in NPC conversations are always highlighted, though the effect is more subtle if the option to click keywords has been turned off.
- You no longer know the name of NPCs by default. To learn their name, ask them! Other NPCs may also tell you about NPCs they know.
- NPCs now open personal chat tabs during conversation, up to the maximum of six overall tabs. New NPC chat tabs will then override the oldest NPC chat tab, but should not affect player created or default tabs. The filter pulldown for NPC chat tabs displays but does nothing (by design). The pulldown appearing in NPC chat tabs is a known issue. NPC chat tabs will close automatically when you move away from them.
- Many quests can now be completed for rewards. Try asking NPC’s how you can help and be sure to pay attention to Journal updates.
- The extremely short life expectancy of Wycliffe and his friends in Ravensmoor if his quest is moved forward is a known issue.
- Reminder: When in online mode (which is the only mode we allow currently), you must have an NPC targeted to speak to them.
User Interface:
- During character creation the chosen hair color does not yet apply to eyebrows.
- Alternate male and female Avatar faces have been removed. Note that it is possible to extensively customise the Avatar’s facial features via the appropriate sliders.
- When playing full screen and using multiple monitors, the user can move the mouse cursor outside of the game window- this functionality is only intended to work in windowed mode or borderless windowed mode.
- Many of the attributes on the Character Stats screen (V key) are obsolete, not yet implemented, not updating properly, or otherwise broken.
- Crafting materials can be difficult to find once placed on the crafting table while in bag inventory mode. If you are having trouble crafting a recipe, make sure that all of the correct components are on the crafting table. The Take All button will help clear the table if having problems when attempting to craft.
Parties:
- Occasionally party members may find themselves in different instances of a scene. Use the /zone <playername> or /summonparty commands to join back up.
Performance:
- The FPS counter is not always accurate.
- There may be framerate issues and slowdown in game, as optimizations are ongoing.
- The game will “hang” for several seconds after loading into a scene.
- Names overhead can cause some performance issues on the client
Audio:
- Sound FX used in game are not final and in many cases may be placeholders
Patching:
- If the patch process is terminated while updating (e.g. computer/patcher crashes) user may need to uninstall and reinstall to finish the patching.
Linux:
- Officially we only support Ubuntu, however it should run on other distributions but might require some work.
- nVidia users: nouveau works, but is slower than the official drivers and might crash; full-screen and resolution switching might be buggy with nouveau. (Use of latest official drivers recommended)
- AMD/Ati users: radeondrmfb works, but is slow and might show graphical artifacts, use the latest and official Ati/AMD drivers instead (e.g. fglrx, however do not use experimental drivers).
- Both nVidia and Radeon users might experience graphical issues dealing with transparency on game objects.
- Switching graphics mode, resolution and full-screen might be buggy on radeon cards (switching back from full screen can cause graphical anomalies - work around to switch out of x11 and back).
- Cloth sims don't work in this build. This will affect capes and other select clothing.
- The Launcher saw some bigger changes - it’s best to remove pre-R9 game and Launcher files, then redownload the launcher and start (see player instruction document for link to newest launcher and instructions)
Mac:
- We only support two button mouse currently. One button mouse support will be coming in a later release along with remappable keys.
- Mac client isn't developer signed, so if you have the default gate-keeper settings set, you won't be able to directly run the app. If you control-click when you click on the file, it should allow you to open. Once you do that, you will be able to run the app without issue.
- Launcher does self-contain the game starting with R9 - however, as there is no installer, yet, to install the game with the correct permissions into system locations like “Applications”, run it from a place where your user has write-permissions for the game to be able to update itself (e.g. the Desktop)
- The Launcher saw some bigger changes - it’s best to remove pre-R9 game and Launcher files, then redownload the launcher and start (see player instruction document for link to newest launcher and instructions)
- The version of the Unity game engine used starting with R8 seems to suffer from a deadlock in the logging-module, potentially leading to a complete freeze of the game, only displaying the rotating beachball. We are in contact with the Unity developers to find a solution for R10 and forward. Sorry about this inconvenience.
