Year 2 Newsletter, Term 3, 2017

Welcome back to Term 3  and a special welcome to our new families at Elm Park School.

We look forward to another exciting term of learning.

Important dates this term:

  • 3 August: Student led conferences

  • 14 - 18 August:  Maths Week; Year 2 Maths Olympiad Wednesday 12.15-1.00pm

  • 11 - 15 September: Måori language week

  • 18 - 22 September: Year 2 & 3 cross country event; date TBC

  • 29 September:  End of Term 3

Our learning focus for the term:

Our learning focus this term will continue to be centred around the theme of celebrations and remembrances.

We will be working our way towards preparing for Elm Park School’s jubilee celebrations in Term 4, which will include preparing for the bi-annual art exhibition.

This term, we will be focussing on improving our fitness by practising for a cross country event later in the term. We will be practising on Mondays and Wednesdays. It would be a good idea to send running shoes on these days every week,  as the course can be quite muddy.

We will be continuing with e-Portfolios as a means of keeping you up to date with your child’s learning. It would be fantastic if you post comments on your child’s blog.

Useful information

Please ensure that your child is in the correct school uniform and that all items of clothing are clearly named.  If your child needs to wear a non-uniform item please send along a note to the classroom teacher for a temporary pass.

All school shoes need to be plain BLACK.  Please do not buy shoes with coloured soles and laces. No boots or heels.

No long sleeved T-shirts / skivvies to be worn under the school shirt.

Food policy:

Some children suffer from food allergies. Therefore, children are not allowed to share any food or drink with other children. Fizzy drinks, lollies/ chocolates are not allowed in school. We encourage students to bring water to school.   We do have water fountains that students can use at all times.

 Being prepared for the day:

We ask for your support in ensuring that your child has brought their bookbag with homework book and reader to school each day. Remember that NO BOOKBAG means NO BOOK sent home.

It helps the children prepare for the day if they are in school before the 8.55 am bell.  Children can come into rooms when the bell rings at 8.30am.

There are a lot of winter ills and chills around at the moment.  Please keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell and remember to let the office know of your child’s absence.

We would love it if you could send along a box of tissues to school for the runny noses and sneezes.

Your child will continue to visit the school library every week. Please ensure that the borrowed book is returned promptly, before the next visit to the library. We trust that the library books that are taken home will be looked after.

Please spend some time every night reading with your child. Poems, readers and library books will be sent home on a regular basis. Homework will be sent home weekly. Some time will need to be spent each night on practising spelling words and basic facts.

Contact with and from school

There are many ways we can contact you and you can contact the school.  It is vital that school has your latest contact details in case of an emergency.
