Course Description

This two-semester course covers sole proprietorship accounting principles involved in the preparation and maintenance of financial records concerned with business management and operations.  It is a comprehensive introduction to basic accounting including recording, summarizing and reporting, principles of income measurement and asset valuation, accounting systems and controls.  Students are exposed to careers in the accounting field and are given the opportunity to perform accounting applications using the computer.  An introduction to partnerships and corporations may be included.

Grading

Students will be given points for all assignments.

Homework:  30%

Quizzes/Tests:  40%

Simulations/Projects:  15%

Semester Final:  15%

If you fail to have an assignment complete when it is due, you have until the end of the day to turn the assignment in.  Late submission of assignments will be assessed a penalty of 10% per day.

Midterm and Finals will be given.

Extra credit will not be given to replace required course work. Extra credit will only be given if your required work is completed and you need extra practice to understand the skills required to be successful during this course.

B+: 91-92        B: 88-90        B-: 85-87

C+: 83-84        C: 80-82        C-: 77-79

D+: 75-76        D: 72-74        D-: 70-71

F: 69 or below

Make Up Work

If you are absent, YOU are responsible to get the missed assignment(s).  Assignments will be posted on Canvas.  One day extra make up time is allowed for the day missed.  For example, if you miss class on Monday, the work assigned that day will be due on Wednesday.  If you miss class on Monday and Tuesday, the work assigned for Monday will be due Thursday and the work assigned for Tuesday will be due Friday.

Tardy Policy

A student is considered tardy when they are not in the classroom when the tardy bell rings, unless the student’s planner has been signed by a staff member.

Communication

Assignments will be posted on Canvas.  Parents are encouraged to access students’ grades on Sycamore and contact me as needed.  If internet access is not available please contact me and I will get student information to you.
