Shelton Leadership Challenge

June 1st

The Shelton Leadership Challenge is a six day summer experience for rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school. Interested applicants must have a 3.0 unweighted GPA or better. Cost of program is $700 (includes deposit, lodging, meals and program curriculum).. A $100 deposit is required upon registration. Scholarships may be available. Registration deadline is June 1st. Camps held at NC Wesleyan or NC State University. Visit: 

Shelton’s five cornerstones of values-based leadership - honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility - are the foundations of the camp. The core curriculum focuses on personal leadership, interpersonal dynamics, role of values and ethics in leadership, teambuilding and empowering others.

Meredith College’s Looking Toward College Seminar

May 1st

The Looking Toward College seminar is for rising 10th, 11th or 12th grade young ladies that will help prepare them for an effective college search.  Topics include:  setting goals, clarifying values, career planning, college selection, study skills, communication skills, and more!  The seminar will be held at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC on June 20-23, 2017.

Cost is $395 and includes lodging, meals, programs, workshops, information packet, social activities and a t-shirt.  Please see Mrs. Gay for registration information.

Martha Guy Summer Institute for Future Business Leaders (MGSI)

February 24th

- For students who have a sincere interest in business as a college major and demonstrate leadership potential. Interested students should demonstrate high academic achievement.

- July 9th - 29th

- Combines a residential experience (Appalachian State University) with out of state travel. The program concludes with a week of travel to various business and cultural sites, including the New York Stock Exchange.

-Classes are small, only twenty four students are selected.

-Tuition is $1,800 plus a meal plan of $350. Need-based scholarships are available to qualified applicants. Applications can be found at

Summer Jazz Workshop @ UNC-Wilmington

June 30th

The 2017 UNCW Summer Jazz Workshop is geared toward middle and high school students who have participated in band and/or jazz band. Applications must include a completed registration application and recommendation from your band director or private teacher. Acceptance is based upon the merit of your registration application information and teacher recommendation. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, as well as projected needs for instrumentation balance within the jazz ensembles: 20 saxophones, 20 trumpets, 20 trombones, 8 guitar, 8 piano, 8 bass, 8 drums.

-Cost $495 for tuition, housing, and three meals a day
