School is in session, which means Sunday School is coming up soon! Rally Day, when Sunday School begins a new year, will be Sept. 9. Also next month, we’ll be presenting Bibles to first through third-graders on Sept. 16, and Confirmation will be held Sept. 30.
Skilled or unskilled, your hands are needed to help assemble quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Every first and third Wednesday of the month, from 9-4:30 and then in the evening from 6:30-8:30, volunteers work together to make quilts for those in need due to poverty, war, or natural disasters. This month’s dates are Aug. 1 and 15, with the bonus day of Aug. 29.
This summer we’re collecting baby items and school supplies for baby care and school kits for Lutheran World Relief. Check the lists at church (or at LWR.org). , Bring your donations to church any time. On Aug. 26 will be “roping” the backpacks we’ve constructed so they can be filled on God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday in September.
Parish nurse Cathy Foelske invites you to partner with her to provide meals for families of newborn babies, church members recently out of the hospitalized, and others who could use help with a meal. Please contact the church office or Cathy if you would like to join this ministry. (Gourmet skills not required--just a loving heart and willing hands!)
If you can help provide a meal for Hope Haven, please call Carrie Engstrom at 815-758-2588 or check the sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board next to the church library. Another opportunity to provide a meal is on the third Wednesday of each month, when our congregation helps to feed the NIU students who gather at Grace Place Campus Ministry. Call Teresa Lange at 815-758-0855.
