June, 2019

On Sunday, June 8 we observe Pentecost, when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. Come to worship wearing red (or yellow or orange), and if you wish, bring a red flowering plant for our Pentecost garden.

It’s time for Vacation Bible School! June 10-14 are the dates. It’s not too late to volunteer to help. Also, if you can bring snacks for the campers and helpers, please bring them to church.

Thanks for all the bars of soaps you brought in during May! They will be boxed and sent to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse in Maryland for distribution to victims of poverty and natural disasters throughout the world. Soap is truly a life-saving and life-giving gift.

Skilled or unskilled, your hands are needed to help assemble quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Every first and third Wednesday of the month, from 9-4:30, volunteers work together to make quilts for those in need due to poverty, war, or natural disasters. This month’s dates are June 5 and 19..

Parish nurse Cathy Foelske invites you to partner with her to provide meals for families of newborn babies, church members recently out of the hospitalized, and others who could use help with a meal. Please contact the church office or Cathy if you would like to join this ministry. (Gourmet skills not required--just a loving heart and willing hands!)

If you can help provide a meal for Hope Haven, please call Carrie Engstrom at 815-758-2588 or check the sign-up sheet posted on the bulletin board next to the church library. Another opportunity to provide a meal is on the third Wednesday of each month, when our congregation helps to feed the NIU students who gather at Grace Place Campus Ministry. Call Teresa Lange at 815-758-0855.
