LONDON,

23rd. July, 1931.

I wish to thank you for your letter of July 6th,[1] and I much appreciate your expression of enthusiasm in regard to my Exhibition chez Charpentier,[2] which gives me great pleasure. I only regret that we did not meet.

John Lane, of the Bodley Head, to whom I gave the right to reproduce my portrait of Marechal Lyautey [6118], kindly sent me a copy of Monsieur Maurois’ biography of the Marechal before the book was put on the market; the English edition is published in very nice form, and I am very pleased to possess Monsieur Maurois’ version of the life of Marechal Lyautey which has been so well written, and that I am associated with it by means of my portrait of the Marechal.[3]

I hope that, when I am next in Paris, we may meet, and with kindest regards to you and Monsieur Maurois,[4]

Believe me,

Yours very sincerely,

SMDL
