My dear Friend,

I was delighted to receive your warm, cordial and generous letter and particularly gladdened by the news that I will soon see you, so we will be able to exchange all [our news] face to face. I would not have written now but for the fact that I wanted to let you know that my dear wife^[1] has presented me with a strong, healthy

little daughter and that both she and the newborn are in good health. May I ask you please, when convenient, to impart this news to your dear, honourable wife^[2] – whose hand please kiss on my behalf – together with my fervent wish that she too may come safely and successfully through the hour of difficulty!^[3] 

In the hope that you will let me know as soon as you arrive and that we may spend as many evenings together

Édes Barátom!

végtelen örvendtem aranyos, meleghangú, baráti soraidnak és főleg annak, hogy legközelebb viszontlátlak és akkor mindent – [illegible words] – előszóval elmondhatunk egymásnak. Nem is irtam volna most, azonban tudatni akarom veled, hogy kedves feleségem erős, egészséges

kis leányyal ajándékozott meg és hogy úgy ő, mint az ujszűlött egészségesek. Nagyon kérlek légy kedves ezt alkalmilag kedves nőd Ő Nagyságának – kinek kezét is csókoltatom – tudtára adni, azon hő óhajom kiséretében, hogy ő is baj nélkül szerencsésen essék túl a nehéz órán!
