The Volunteer Award

Our volunteer award winner has been helping the Spectrum qualifier since its inception. He has brought in more volunteers each year from his team to help staff the fields and help with judging. They have been helping us make this event better and better each of the past 3 years.

Judges Awards

During the course of competition, the Judges may encounter teams whose unique efforts, performance or dynamics merit recognition.  Some teams have a story that sets them apart in a noteworthy way.  Sometimes a team is so close to winning an award that the Judges choose to give special recognition to the team.  Judges Awards allow Judges the freedom to recognize remarkable teams that stand out for reasons other than the Core Awards categories.  We have two judges awards today.

These programming prodigies accelerated through the competition and hammered their way through. They really used their heads. The Judges Award: for Programming Prodigies goes to team 2137 Hammerheads.

These three designed a solid robot.  First, they started with a strategic plan that mapped out the path to the best point performance in the allotted time.  Then they built a flexible platform that is completely dependent on optical sensors and elegant code blocks to find it's way through the challenge.  They even built in code paths for failure resistance.  Their model is to "Fail Fast and Keep Improving".
