To: National People's Congress,

I write this to you from London, United Kingdom. I am an award-winning artist from Los Angeles, United States, with much of my work in major feature films seen internationally and MTV Award Grand Prize Winner for "Steal The Spotlight". I am fortunate to have success in my music with millions of streams and accolades.

I recently came across many groups in China torturing kittens and live-streaming these heinous daily acts, for profit. The groups are growing and it stemmed from a video of a cat being put in a blender, then put into a microwave by a well known blogger in China. He was hardly punished and released 15 days later, and continues to torture kittens today.

Here is a link that comprises of detailed evidence, and recorded abuse, with names of some of the perpetrators:

I was deeply shocked by how kittens and cats from China were tortured, burned alive and guillotined on Telegram. The perpetrators are extremely primitive and evil and do not represent a good image for the Chinese people. It not only affects the victims, but is causing distress and trauma to the public, and risk of disease and virus, due to disease and discarding of their remains into public waters of China. The cats (and dogs!) carry many diseases. There are several serious issues at hand here that need to be addressed immediately.

Why don't you punish them? Why is this legal in one of the world's oldest cultures? The reputation of China is being seriously affected, and worldwide, as more and more people are becoming aware. We don't understand the total lack of empathy and disregard for life. Why is there no protection, no compassion? What does this attitude do to how the rest of the world view China? Why not instill a view to protect the most vulnerable, instead of allow torture of the innocent?

Wang Chaoyi and his organization members used the killing of tens of thousands of cats and produced illegal violent and bloody videos for profit over a decade, but he did not receive the punishment he deserved. His accomplices escaped and were not pursued by the police. In addition, his organization members still used indescribable cruel methods such as roasting, gouging, and dismembering animals every day, without any police investigating, there is no law to punish them! Their six international customized animal cruelty websites can be freely downloaded in any country, which violates the human bottom line. How can the United Nations conventions not be dealt with?

I urge you to take action and we implore you to change your laws accordingly.

You can contact me directly here, and I look forward to a reply. I will not perform or sell my music in China until there are animal welfare laws in place and these abusers are brought forward and punished. More and more celebrity artists are refusing any business in China as well.

Sincerely,

Melinda

Hi Joel,

I am an American singer/songwriter and animal rights activist based in London.

I was reading a BBC article which happened to yours, on the monkey torture circles. Thank you for your work on it. The same thing is happening with specifically, kittens in China. You might be aware that there are livestreaming videos going on daily there, groups of 1000+ online members, paying to watch people to torture them. I'll spare the endless graphic details of what I saw, as I can't unsee them ever now, and wouldn't wish anyone to witness it. But one now infamous video involving a blender and microwave went viral on tik tok and brought awareness to the issue on a larger scale which I've now learned is only the tip of the iceberg. They were originally using QQ platform in China, and have now moved to Telegram who are useless and apathatic with regard to shutting down the groups because "freedom of speech".

I would love to know how you might be able to help. I will contact BBC what's app as well but you're the first person at BBC I'm emailing about this. I am sure someone else has reported this to BBC but I don't know. It would be a dream if you might able to write about it and investigate. I'm doing as much as I can trying to help - this needs a seriously good hacker and cooperation with Telegram but they are useless so far. How they are allowing this...it's beyond me.

Thank you so much for your efforts and work, and I really look forward to hearing back from you.

Kind Regards,

Melinda
