Basics of Ark Grid

Ark Grid is an evergreen vertical progression system in Lost Ark that begins starting at item level 1700. It requires 2 components in order to activate the effects: Cores and Jewels.

Cores are the main object that have gameplay altering effects. They are the larger circle in the Ark Grid menu. By themselves, the Cores have no effect, but once supplied with a sufficient amount of Core Points from Jewels, can have a significant impact on your class playstyle.

When the system is first unlocked, only 1 Core slot will be unlocked. Every week after the first week, another slot is unlocked until all 6 are unlocked by week six. This timegate applies per character and begins when registering your first Core on that character.

All Core slots can be equipped with up to 4 Jewels, pending their Willpower capacity. You can only equip the corresponding Jewel to Core. For example, Order Cores can only be equipped with Order Jewels. For understanding purposes, all Order-related things in Ark Grid are colored red while all Chaos-related things are colored blue.

Core Sources

  • Cores can be obtained from any raid-type content starting from Act IV Kazeros.
  • Normal and Hard mode can both drop up to Ancient rarity Cores. However, the drop rate of Ancient rarity cores is 10x higher in Hard mode.
  • You cannot drop Cores of other classes.
  • You can drop Cores of the other engraving of your class.
  • There is a pity system in place where you can trade an NPC for a guaranteed Core of your choice (it will either be Relic or Ancient, weighted towards Relic). The material is obtained just by obtaining Cores and registering them.
  • You need 200x of the material to exchange for the pity box.
  • Pity material amount acquired is based on the rarity of any registered Core (regardless of Order or Chaos):
  • Legendary: 4x
  • Relic: 15x
  • Ancient: 50x
  • Cores are non-tradeable.

Jewel Sources

  • Jewels can be obtained from daily content starting from 1700.
  • The main source is from Kurzan Frontline and Guardian Raid.
  • Jewels can also appear in Chaos Gate.
  • Jewels can also be in Fate Embers.
  • Jewels can also be in the Cash Shop.
  • You can exchange honing materials (weapon, armor, and Leapstones) for 10 random Jewel boxes each week from the NPC.
  • You can exchange Jewel Fragments (Order and Chaos respectively) for a random Jewel box as well. These are obtained from dismantling unwanted Jewels.
  • Jewel Fragments can be converted between Order and Chaos at the NPC.
  • Jewels are dropped up to the Epic rarity.
  • Jewels are non-tradeable when dropped. When fusing Jewels to create new ones, there is a chance that the result is a tradeable version. Fusing Jewels costs 500 Gold.

Types of Cores

Cores come in 6 variants. You have 6 Core slots in the Ark Grid interface. You are allowed to equip 1 from each category.

Order of the Sun

This is the main Core that ‘defines’ the build you want to go towards. Requires a corresponding Moon Core to trigger Fate in order to activate.

Order of the Moon

This Core triggers the Fate buff for every class and build.

Order of the Star

This Core is supplementary and typically provides just damage, speed, or cooldown for the specific skills that your build specializes in.

Chaos of the Sun

These Cores just provide generic stat boosts that either apply to DPS classes or support classes.

For every engraving for each class in the game, you will have 3 options to pick from in each of the Order categories. You cannot mix-and-match with the other engraving from your class.

Cores that are Legendary and below have an activation effect at 10 and 14. These are pretty much starter Cores.

Relic Cores have effects at 10, 14, 17, 18, 19, and 20. These are considered endgame baseline Cores.

Ancient Cores do the same thing as Relic cores however their 17-point effect is noticeably strengthened.

All of the primary effects of Cores are achieved by 17 Core Points.

Think of 18, 19, and 20 as min/maxing. It’s like 41-50 Elixir, or 126 Transcendence, or Karma beyond level 21. Nice to have but all the main effects are done by 17.

Upgrading Jewels

  1. Total Levels: This is the total levels of the Trait Levels in the section below it. The only thing this affects is the final rarity of the Jewel once it’s done processing and doesn’t mean anything else important.
  2. Trait Levels: This is just a fancy way of them displaying the current levels of each of your Jewel’s traits.
  3. Processing Options: When you click the upgrade button, 1 of these 4 effects will occur from the ones presented to you. Each option has an equal 25% chance of occurring.
  4. Option Reroll: When upgrading any Jewel, you get 1 opportunity to reset the options given if they don’t look good. Uncommon Jewels start with zero rerolls, Rare Jewels start with one, and Epic Jewels start with two.
  5. Finish Processing: If you do not want to use the remaining Process Jewel clicks (because the options are not good and you have no rerolls left) you can decide to finish processing the Jewel early.
  6. Process Jewel: The amount of upgrades available depends on the rarity of the Jewel. Uncommon Jewels have 5 clicks, Rare Jewels have seven, and Epic Jewels have nine.

Possible Processing Options:

  • +1 to a Trait Level
  • +2 to a Trait Level
  • +3 to a Trait Level
  • +4 to a Trait Level
  • Nothing happens.
  • -1 to a Trait Level
  • Reduce Gold cost for processing to 0 for remaining clicks.
  • Double Gold cost for processing for remaining clicks.
  • The Trait changes to a random other Trait (can only be applied to the non-RNG traits on a Jewel).
  • +1 Reroll
  • +2 Rerolls

All Traits have a max level of 5. Once a Trait reaches level 5 during processing, only options that either change the option (in the case of random Traits) or reduce them can appear.

A Jewel must be fully processed in order to be equipped. After fully processing a Jewel, the final rarity will be based off of the cumulative levels of the traits. Therefore, higher rarity base Jewels typically have a higher chance of finishing as higher rarities:

  • Legendary: 4-15 Total Levels
  • Relic: 16-18 Total Levels
  • Ancient: 19 or more Total Levels

As mentioned before, the rarity itself does not impart any bonus effects to the Jewel. It’s just for your OCD for having nice high rarity Jewels.

When you obtain a Jewel, some things are static and some things are random.

 

  1. These traits are fixed. These traits are Willpower Efficiency and Core Points.
  1. Willpower Efficiency: This trait reduces the Willpower cost of equipping a Jewel to a Core. The higher this is, the easier it is to equip multiple Jewels within a Core’s capacity. By default, this is level 1 and reduces the Willpower cost to equip the Jewel by one.
  2. Core Points: This trait increases the amount of Core Points that a Jewel provides towards activating a Core’s effects. The higher this is, the easier it is to fully activate a Core. By default, this is level 1 and provides 1 Core Point.
  1. These traits are random. They cumulatively pool with all other Jewels that you have equipped that also increase these stats. They provide very minor stat boosts however do not have a level limit so can go pretty high.

In addition to Order and Chaos Jewels, there are 3 types of Jewels for each base rarity (Uncommon, Rare, and Epic). Everything about these 3 types are the same except for their starting Willpower cost. The 3 types start at 10, 9, and 8 Willpower initially. The Jewel of each rarity that starts at 8 Willpower cost is the most valuable, since it’s like starting off with 2 extra levels of Willpower Efficiency for free.

The type of Jewel that you cut can affect the stats that may appear in their random options pool. For example, bonus boss damage cannot appear on Jewels that have a base cost of 8.

By using a special ticket while processing, you are allowed to reset a Jewel completely as long as it has not finished processing. This ticket can be purchased for 100 Blue Crystals from the Cash Shop and does not have a purchase limit. However, you’re only allowed to use 1 of these tickets on any Jewel. Therefore, you cannot reset the same Jewel over and over.

Class Specific Core Sets

In general, the developers sort of intend for players to use specific Cores together in sort of a ‘set’. To this end, each engraving has 3 sets of Cores that serve as further specializations of your Enlightenment from Ark Passive.

In a way, you can think of Cores and the Ark Grid as sort of a job advancement in other classic MMORPGs. If Enlightenment is your first job advancement, then Ark Grid in a way is your second job advancement that further hones in on your build’s specialization.

At the time of writing this, some classes have Ark Grid options that might be more or less interesting or powerful. The developers have noted that Ark Grid will greatly impact the current class balancing and so balance patches later on will be based around Ark Grid performance.

Class Core Sets

The following tables below are a summary of the full effects of each category of Cores at the Ancient rarity. Please note that the effects are unlocked in a certain order based on equipped Core Points.

The tables below only show the intended way of combining the Cores but you are able to mix-and-match if you think of a combination of Cores outside of the box.

You can only have 1 Sun, 1 Moon, and 1 Star Core effect equipped.

A minimum of Relic rarity is needed in order to unlock all the gameplay-related effects of the Ark Grid system. Ancient Cores do the same thing as Relic ones but have a stronger 17-point effect.

What the fuck is this smilegate

Complete overhaul of Lone Knight that plays without Charge type skills. Your main damage is gonna come from chargeless Gunlance Shot spam, T, and chargeless Surge Cannon.

Very likely that we’ll have to ditch Stinger in favor of Fire Bullet to maximize the GLS cooldown reduction. At -80% damage, your Charged Stinger will hit like a wet noodle, and there’s no way to switch it to a different type of skill like you can with Surge Cannon unfortunately.

Potentially a high potential burst potential setup that will likely want a CD Gem for Rising Gunlance to get stacks as fast as possible.

Might be unreliable due to how many stacks you need to build solely through Rising Gunlance in the first place. Potentially good for a long fight (until you waste your stacks on a cutscene/invuln/stagger/phase transition).

Rough test in trixion: You’d be able to fit 9 Rising Gunlance every 2 Shout of Hatred (without gimping your rotation), assuming you start your rotation with a Rising Gunlance.

Adding a lv8 CD gem is the same result but a lot smoother, and lines up better with the rest of the rotation.

On the upside, stacks don’t seem to run out, so you could build them during downtimes (maybe even pre-pull) by just spamming RGL.
