Barrel Mixer

Chemical, paint, and coating industries require different methods of mixing drums. An agitator can mix liquids and solids inside of a metal container. There are many ways to mix fluids inside a drum. It is important to be familiar with these methods and the various types of barrel mixers. What is a Barrel Mixer? - A machine that mixes chemicals in a container (usually metal), called a drum. How to Choose a Barrel Mixer: 3 Methods for Mixing in Drums Supplying the right method to mix chemicals in a drum is important because it can affect efficiency, safety and production. Barrel Mixer Types - Spiral mixer: uses a helix spiral blade wrapped around the inside of the drum, slow slow mixing action but easy to clean. End cap agitators: Create a torque movement on your drum to mix thoroughly - Direct drive mixers: are attached to the drum's shaft to directly mix the chemical inside the drum. Other Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Barrel Mixer - Maximum performance requires power - Total height of equipment - Volume capacity of container being used Bung mixing is used to mix materials within drums. However, they are not very effective, run at high speeds, and cause temperature issues. These mixers run at high speeds and quite often run a high shear rate due to high speed. They usually have a small, ineffective blade that turns the material. Even if the bung mixer is replaced with an agitator the material will still spin at a high rate of speed. This means that it is still essential to slow down the mixing process by using weight loads and chills. Are there other ways to mix drums? Multi-cone Mixers are made up of multiple cones that have been stacked on top. The multi cone agitator works by rotating the container and having a spiral-shaped mixing screw rotate inside of a few cones to blend chemicals together. End Cap Mixers have a mixing screw that allows chemicals to be mixed from the center of the barrel. - Side Press Mixeris used in cylindrical drums and has a side press fitting instead of a bung, this allows for a positive seal and easily attached with a mixer shaft. Pallet Mixer is similar to an end cap activator, but uses paddles instead. Drum bungs must have a positive seal to prevent any leakage. Direct drive mixers have the shaft connecting the mixer to the drum's rotating axle. This can reduce vibrations in the system. - Vibratory Barrel Mixer can be used for mixing paint or other liquid chemicals together, rather than dry materials. This drum mixer is made up of a rotating mixer, an eccentricweight and a coupling device that reduce vibration transfer to the drum.
