Renzo
We started this by using a canvas to cover the table, which is also used as our work station. The idea of canvas is to not make a big mess and learn to use our own space. Then we went to get a piece of clay from a huge piece of clay using the wire cutter. I then started out my project by making slabs of organic shape also by wedging. I wanted to add visuals so I used the technique slip and score to stick multiple pieces together. I made more textures on the main surface by using a scratching tool and a needle tool. My build does not include balance, but it has a design of rule of thirds, just like you would use on taking pictures. I had a rhythm of stacking pieces on the side, 2 layers but different shape. I used the rest of the space to fill in with all kinds of textures and patterns.
In my work the lines appears on my empty space but the line on my shape makes the shape have a organic look. I observed the other’s work, a lot of people do not have organic lines and shapes, instead, they have lines to make coils and lines to divide up spaces. Shapes are a big part of this project since the base of our clay makes our design have different visuals whether it’s to the audience or to ourselves. Spaces are filled with designs and textures but not only the space of the clay, as well as the space of our own, that is what we had to learn as well. Different sizes of space creates different thinking for the observant. Different types of form makes a huge part of this clay project as well. If the form is rough we think of a certain way, if the form is clean we think the opposite of rough. The texture makes up the impression of our art work, if it’s a rough surface it could feel weird but if it’s smooth it will be easy to go through.
