The Corcoran Gallery of Art
Washington, D.C.
24th, December, 1929.
Mr. P. A. de Laszlo,
3, Fitzjohn’s Avenue, N.W.3,
Hampstead, London, England.
Dear Laszlo:
It gave me great pleasure to receive this morning your cordial note of the 6th instant, which I enjoyed immensely. I am glad to have the copy of Figaro for November 1929, with a handsome portrait by you on the cover [3270].[1]
I am sorry that your next visit to this country should now be so uncertain, but I am sure you know that, whenever you may come, a very warm welcome will be awaiting you. You will be interested to know that the portrait of Mr. Procter [111048] of Cincinnati arrived here safely and was exhibited continuously from the date of its arrival until a few days ago, when we packed and shipped it to Mr. Procter in Cincinnati. He called upon me in person, and I had a very nice interview with him. I at once recognized him from the striking likeness, and I concur with your view that it is one of your best portraits. It was sent to him in accordance with his wish, inasmuch as he wanted it in his home at Christmas.
You will be glad to know that Miss Millard continues to improve since her operation last September.[2] She has not, however, returned as yet to the office, and I am anxious that she should not do so until her strength is entirely restored. The operation, however, was thoroughly successful in every way, and the doctors assure us that she will hereafter enjoy better health than she has known for a long time.
I am glad to note that you and Mrs Laszlo[3] contemplate a trip to Rome for a much needed rest, and I am delighted to hear that you are expecting your sons home for Christmas. From your letter I note that your third son is coming to America early in January to spend sometime here studying American law.[4] In the event that he should come to Washington, please be sure and ask him not to fail to let me have the pleasure of seeing him.

Faithfully yours,

Director.
