Schroeder YMCA Swim Team
- NEW PROGRAMS FOR FALL - We are excited to announce a couple of new programs for the fall as SSTY continues to grow and improve swimming in Wisconsin.
- We are starting a partnership program between Splash and WSAC. Splash is a lessons pool based in Mequon on Donges Bay Rd. They do a great job with swim lessons and are a perfect partner for WSAC. It will be a transitional competitive swimming program for kids age 4-8 and will allow kids to take one 30 min lesson at Splash a week and then participate in superstars at WSAC once a week. Kids in this program will be taking part in the conference program. Please see the FLYER and share it with friends whose kids would benefit from this program.
- The WSAC and the Nicolet School District have teamed up starting this fall. WSAC is extremely excited to announce this partnership. As SSTY coaches assume leadership and management of the Bananas program in the fall we look forward to more faces in our conference program and more opportunities for kids to swim competitively. If you know kids in that school district looking for competitive swimming opportunities please let them know of the changes in coaching management.
- This week WSAC received word that we will be expanding our Schroeder South programs into Cudahy. Cudahy middle school is a great 6 lane pool that we will begin utilizing in the fall and it will allow for significant growth in our south programs. We are very excited for this opportunity! In less than 2 years, programming in our south sites has grown to over 100 athletes out of 4 pools!

- A room block has been made for the 2015 Speedo Section 1 Champs in MPLS next summer. Reserve a room
- P66 USA National Swimming Championship, Irvine, CA
A good meet for Schroeder in Irvine, CA.! Alex, Ashlyn, Nick and Adam all got second swims and Adam did his thing again just days shy of his 31st birthday. Adam made the big final in the 50 Back and the B final in the 100 M back - pretty awesome - we kind of take for granted that Adam continues to swim and swim at that level, but it is really rare and obviously he enjoys being a relevant athlete.
Ashlyn broke her own team record and bettered the State 15/16 record in the 200 M back.
For Alex, it was a fine finish to a brilliant pre-college club career - she’s led the way for SSTY and WI Swimming. Nick has anchored the Men’s team for several years and he’s totally ready for the Big 10. The Manz duo helped Schroeder score and were a pleasure to have at Nationals.
The only bummer, and it was a big one, was Hannah’s broken hand. She did a tremendous amount of work this year and had nothing to show for it at Nationals. The women’s medley would have been 5th had they only duplicated their performance from sectionals...another year!

- Summer Trophy Meet and Picnic Was a Blast - see great photos - thanks Tom!
A good time was had by all at the first annual Trophy Meet and Picnic on Saturday, August 9th. Approximately 80 swimmers participated in the meet and they swam many best times. As a result many earned “best time buttons” and individual event ribbons; all took home a TROPHY :)! The weather was great, and there was plenty of fun & food for swimmers and families at the post meet picnic, not to mention the hilarious seed-spitting contest. A huge thanks to Robin Hayes for all of her time and effort in organizing the picnic.
- Almost time for Fall Thinking! As the summer season concludes, it is time to turn our thoughts to fall and the restart of programs. Information will be coming out soon about maintenance practices, tryouts and fall season start as well as the 2014 - 2015 meet schedule. The pool will not be drained but operating hours will be reduced.
- Come and Join Us for a Night of Free Music on August 26th at the Top of the Hill of Humboldt Park
All team members and their families are invited to a get-together at “Chill On the Hill”, put on by the Bay View Neighborhood Association. Chill is every Tuesday evening in the summer (weather permitting), at beautiful Humboldt Park in Bay View, and the band is Paul Cebar & Tomorrow Sound. John Stano is opening at 6:00 p.m. We’ll meet at the top of the hill - look for the SST banner. Bring your chairs and blankets; a variety of foods and beverages are are for sale, or bring your own. - Noah’s Ark Water Park Trip - Huge success! So much fun. Thanks to Coach Wendy for getting the group together again this summer!
- National YMCA Swimming Champs Site and Date Announced The National YMCA site will be Greensboro again and the dates are 3/31 - 4/3/15. Time standards have been published too. We have requested a block of 30 Dbl Dbls at the Sheraton.
Schroeder Conference Info
The conference meets will resume in the fall. Nov. 6th is the first conference meet of the 2014 fall session, so the dual meets will once again be on Thursday nights.

2. 2014 Fall Session:
Swimmers are now placed in their groups for the 2014 Short Course/Fall Session. Go to your account and please review your child’s fall group. If your swimmer didn’t participate in the summer session but is planning on returning in September, please let us know now so we can reactivate your swimmer and place them in a group. If your swimmer is not planning on swimming in the fall session, please also contact Bob so we can deactivate your child. You can email Coaches Ann, Bob, or Amy at our emails listed below in #6.
3. SSTY South Office Is Closed 8/15 - 8/24/14:
Coaches Ann White, Bob White, and Amy Bennett can usually be reached by phone Monday - Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. The office will be closed 8/15 - 8/24/14. Bob and Ann will not be available by phone or email.
4. Schroeder South Fall Tryouts:
While we’re out and about the rest of the summer, please spread the word to friends and neighbors about our program. Tryouts are scheduled for the second week of September: 9/10 at 6:00 p.m. (Greendale High School), 9/12 at 6:00 p.m. (Deer Creek), and 9/13 at 10:00 a.m. (Pulaski County Pool).

5. Schroeder South Think Tank (SSTT)
Next SSTT Meeting: Save the date and join us for the fall SSTT meeting on Monday, 9/8. All are welcome. It’s a great way to meet other parents, give your input, and help strengthen our team.
We will again gather at the St. Francis Brewery and Restaurant located at Howard and Kinnickinnic. Meet and Greet is at 6:00 p.m., with an opportunity to order food and drink. The meeting will begin at 6:30.

7. Team Equipment Info:
Schroeder’s team suits are available to order from Elsmore, which you can now do online. If you have any questions about team suits or other equipment (which goggles to buy, etc.), talk to your child’s coach.
8. SSTY South Lost and Found:
When caps, goggles, suits or fins are left at any of the pools we practice at, the coaches bring them to the Greendale Pool and put them near the team bulletin board. Or they go into Coach Ann’s pink Speedo Bag she won at the golf outing!
9. Mail Checks to Matt Miller:
Please mail all checks to Matt Miller rather than give them to coaches at practice. We’ve never lost a check yet, but practice can get a little hectic! You can mail them to Matt at the following address:
