Contemporary Art Society

70, Grosvenor Street, W. 1

PRESIDENT: LORD HOWARD DE WALDEN

TREASURER: SIR CYRIL KENDALL BUTLER; K.B.E.

HONORARY SECRETARY: THE RT. HON. F. LEVERTON HARRIS

The Contemporary Art Society, which was founded in 1910, exists, as you are doubtless aware, for the purpose of acquiring examples of the work of modern artists.

Pictures from the constantly increasing collection so formed are lent by the Society to Provincial Galleries and Museums, and many of the principal towns have availed themselves of this means (otherwise impossible) of showing to a large public the work of the more prominent modern artists. In the last few years the Society has presented pictures to over sixty provincial galleries and have given a valuable collection to the National Gallery.

The Society is also able, through the influence of its members, to borrow works from private collections for loan to provincial galleries.

In 1919 a branch of the Society was founded under the direction of Mr. Campbell Dodson, Keeper of Prints of the British Museum, for the acquisition of Prints and Drawings by subscription specially allocated to this purpose. Part of this Collection has already been presented to the British Museum, and a further part is being given this year.

In addition there is a separate fund for the purchase of work by Contemporary artists of foreign nationality. A generous offer has been made anonymously of £1,000 towards this fund, provided the Committee can raise another £1,000.

The annual subscription is placed at the figure of one guinea in order that as large a number of members may be enlisted as possible, but the Committee appeals earnestly to all lovers of Art to contribute as largely as possible. Subscriptions or Donations should be sent to the Secretary, The Rt. Hon. F. Leverton Harris, 70, Grosvenor Street, London, W. 1., and if for the Foreign Section should be marked as such.

Members are granted, on production of their, membership card, free access to all Exhibitions held at the following Galleries:

The National Gallery, Millbank         The Wallace Gallery

The Goupil Gallery                         The Independent Gallery

The Lefevre Galleries                 The Leicester Galleries.

Yours faithfully,

F. LEVERTON HARRIS

Hon. Secretary
