How do I install RagePluginHook?

It’s as easy as it gets! Visit the RagePluginHook website and click on “Downloads” in the top right or “Download Now” in the middle of the screen.
Click on “Red Dead Redemption 2 “ or “Grand Theft Auto V” and scroll down.

A .zip file will now be downloaded. If you use Internet Explorer make sure to click “Save”. Once the download is finished, open the .zip and extract all the files into your Grand Theft Auto V folder.

Note: Only the latest versions of RagePluginHook will be available to download. We do not support piracy or older versions of Grand Theft Auto V.

How do I launch RagePluginHook?

After you successfully extracted the files, double click on the RagePluginHook.exe in your Grand Theft Auto V folder. You will be taken through important information, such as our disclaimer and a setup to backup your current game version. (Recommended)
Once that process is done, you will be taken to the RagePluginHook settings.

Can I change the RagePluginHook keybindings and settings?

Yes! Once you are in the RagePluginHook settings, you will be taken to the “General” tab. Here you can adjust the Plugin timeout threshold (Recommended: 60000) and the console key, which will open the RagePluginHook console ingame.

Note/Tip: If your console key does not change, please change it manually in your RagePluginHook.ini. You can find it in your Grand Theft Auto V folder.
Simply move for example: “ConsoleKey=F2 from [Variables] to [Miscellaneous].

So it looks like this:

[Miscellaneous]

DisableRenderVersionText=False

PluginTimeoutThreshold=60000

ConsoleKey=F2

[Variables]

IsDeveloperModeEnabled=False

RagePluginHook Error & Solutions

I keep getting the “Insufficient Permissions or Bad Antivirus” message. What do I do?

Please make sure that you are running RagePluginHook from the original Grand Theft Auto V folder.

1. You can not move your Grand Theft Auto V folder.

2. You can not rename your Grand Theft Auto V folder.
3. You can create a backup folder in the same path and switch names to play the Online & Modded version.

4.Your Grand Theft Auto V folder should be installed into a user permissions-free-path. Like Program Files or a specific root of a secondary drive.

5. Viruses or corrupted Windows systems can block RAGEPluginHook. Please make sure your system is clean and you have no other ongoing issues. (A reset will help.)

If your Grand Theft Auto V folder is in the correct spot and you are still receiving this error, please make sure that your Antivirus isn’t blocking RagePluginHook.
To do this, add your Grand Theft Auto V folder to your Antivirus exclusions. Some Antiviruses may block a program despite it being in your exclusions.
Programs like McAffee, Norton, AVG and Avira are best of removed.
If you are unsure how, please consider visiting your Antiviruses website or visit a forum. You can usually find a tutorial online.

If your Grand Theft Auto V folder is in its original installation path, in your Antivirus exceptions and you still receive this error check the following:
Do you have
GeForce Overlay? If yes, disable it in GeForce Experience’s settings.
Is
XBOX Game Bar enabled? Disable it in Windows settings.
Do you have
RivaTuner or other PC-Enhancing software? Remove or disable it.

If you own the Epic Games launcher version of Grand Theft Auto V, please make sure that you installed RagePluginHook onto Epic Games -> GTAV. (If you did not use a custom path when choosing the Installation location.)

If despite the solutions above you still receive this error, you may have a permissions issue on hand. This mostly happens on pre-build PC’s with pre-installed operating systems or laptops. In order to apply the proper permissions please do the following:

Right click GTA5.exe in your Grand Theft Auto V folder and choose Properties.
Go to the “
Security” tab; it should now look something like this:

SYSTEM, Administrators and your own user should have ALL permissions. Except from this are the “special permissions” as they are not necessarily needed.
It should look like this now:

As you can see, all permissions are checked except for the “special permissions”.
Make sure
SYSTEM, Administrator and your own user look like the picture above.
Once that is completed, close the properties.

Now, you will need to do the exact same permissions for your entire Grand Theft Auto V folder. Instead of going through each file separately, go to your Grand Theft Auto V folders installation location and right click it ->
Properties.

As you can see on the picture to the left, all permissions are given. Once you have successfully edited your permissions, the error should be fixed and you can save & close your properties.
Repeat the same step for your
RAGEPluginHook.exe.
Once done simply go to your Grand Theft Auto V folder and launch RagePluginHook.exe.

In the properties tab of your Grand Theft Auto V folder you may also need to set folder ownership. You can do so if you click on “Advanced” in this specific window:

At the top change the folder owner to “Everyone” by clicking on “Change” and typing Everyone (In your computer's primary language).

Advanced Settings for your Grand Theft Auto V folder.

Press OK and then save.

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 users will have to update to Windows 10 if the above did not work for them.

RagePluginHook is installed in the wrong installation path. How can I change it?

First please make sure that you have extracted RagePluginHook into your original Grand Theft Auto V folder.
If you want to keep a backup folder or a clean installation to play online, please consider creating a second folder for RagePluginHook and other modifications. They both need to be in the exact same path and you will have to switch names between them.

If you want to play the “Grand Theft Auto V - Online” folder, just rename the “Grand Theft Auto V” folder to “Grand Theft Auto V - Modded” first and remove “- Online” from the clean folder. The same method applies to Red Dead Redemption 2.
You’re now good to go.

If all fails, and your Operating System is Windows 8 or 8.1 you will have to upgrade to Windows 10. Plenty of users have reported this to work.

RagePluginHook doesn’t open after double-clicking it. How do I fix it?

Make sure that you have extracted all files in the downloaded .zip into your Grand Theft Auto V/Red Dead Redemption 2 folder. RagePluginHook is not a single .exe file.

Please make sure you have all of the requirements installed. If it says you already have them installed; reinstall them to be sure.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48130

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52685

If you have successfully installed all three packages or repaired them, please add your Grand Theft Auto V/Red Dead Redemption 2 folder to your Antivirus exclusions.

If your Grand Theft Auto V/Red Dead Redemption 2 folder is in its original installation path, in your Antivirus exceptions and you still receive this error check the following:
Do you have
GeForce Overlay? If yes, disable it in GeForce Experience’s settings.
Do you have
RivaTuner or other PC-Enhancing software? Remove or disable it.

RagePluginHook does not open after double clicking it. How do I fix this?

This issue can have multiple causes and therefor multiple solutions. The first thing to check is your Antivirus. Follow the steps from: I keep getting the “Insufficient Permissions or Bad Antivirus” message. What do I do? And then retry.

If this did not help, please inspect your Grand Theft Auto V folder for a file called “RagePluginHook.exe.phifgl”. If this file exists, remove it. Then retry.

If this file does not exist, make sure you have copied all files from the RagePluginHook installation archive into your Grand Theft Auto V folder. Retry once you added your main Grand Theft Auto V folder to antivirus exceptions. It could have blocked files from being transferred.

RagePluginHook displays that my game is the wrong version. What do I do?

Please make sure that you are running the latest version of Grand Theft Auto V/Red Dead Redemption 2. If you are unsure which version is currently the latest or which one you have; visit our RagePluginHook Discord or check the top of this document.

If you are running an older version of Grand Theft Auto V and have no auto-update available in Steam or the Rockstar Games Launcher, please do the following:

1. Delete your
GTA5.exe in your Grand Theft Auto V folder.
2. Verify your game files.

Note: For the Retail version of GTA V: Open the Rockstar Games launcher → Locate "Settings" in the top right corner → Select under "My Installed Games" Grand Theft Auto V → Select Verify Integrity → Wait until the Launcher finished downloading the required files.
For the
Steam version of GTA V: Right click Grand Theft Auto V in Steam → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity Of Game Cache → Wait until Steam finished downloading the required files.

RagePluginHook gives me a ScripthookV error. What do I do?

This usually happens after Grand Theft Auto V has been updated to a newer version. Please make sure that you remove ScripthookV while it’s being updated.

If ScripthookV has been updated and you receive this error, please delete
dinput8.dll and Scrithookv.dll in your Grand Theft Auto V folder.
After you have done that, re-extract the .zip you downloaded from the
official ScripthookV website and put the files in your Grand Theft Auto V folder.

Note: NativeTrainer is optional, but not recommended.

RagePluginHook is stuck on Launching Game or Waiting for Game Window?

Please make sure that you are running Grand Theft Auto V from your original installation path/folder. You should NOT run Grand Theft Auto V as an administrator.
If you do, please remove that setting from the .exe files.
Note: Epic-Games users need to start Grand Theft Auto V before RAGEPluginHook!

If all of the above applies, please check if you can run Grand Theft Auto V without RagePluginHook!

If you can → Please launch Grand Theft Auto V and load into SinglePlayer. Once you successfully load into the world tab out (Alt+TAB) and launch RagePluginHook.
If you can’t → Please visit our RagePluginHook Discord and send a screenshot of your Grand Theft Auto V folder.

RagePluginHook gives me an error saying Steam is running with elevated privileges. What do I do?

If you have the Steam version of Grand Theft Auto V/Red Dead Redemption 2 please don’t run Steam as an administrator. You may not be doing it on purpose or it may have automatically started with elevated privileges.
To change this, locate your
Steam installation path. If you have not changed it, it should look something like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
In this folder you right click the steam.exe → Properties → Compatibility → Run this Program as Administrator → Uncheck this box.

I can’t see the RagePluginHook console ingame. What do I do?

If you are playing Grand Theft Auto V: Open commandline.txt in your Grand Theft Auto V folder. It should be empty. If it’s not, delete everything in it.
Type -windowed then save & close the file.

So it looks like the screenshot above. Now, start the game.
Additionally, if you have NVIDIA Smooth Motion enabled,
disable it.

If you are playing
Red Dead Redemption 2: Open the RagePluginHook settings by holding SHIFT after you double-click the RagePluginHook.exe in your folder.

In this window, select “
Always Natives” in Console Rendering Method. Launch the game. You should now be able to open the console.

After I click “Save & Launch” nothing happens. Grand Theft Auto V itself runs perfectly fine. How do I fix this?

This is a complicated one. If you have extracted RagePluginHook into your Grand Theft Auto V folder and you can open RagePluginHook perfectly fine, but as soon as you click “Save & Launch”, it automatically closes; you have a permissions issue at hand.

If you run RagePluginHook again after it closes and it displays “Determinating Game branch” and runs through the first check again, it wasn’t able to read & write your Grand Theft Auto V folder.
In order to fix this there are multiple ways and depending on how many permissions are denied on your computer, you should run through them all.

These are listed from less severe to severe.

1. The first thing you should check is your Antivirus. It’s recommended that you add your Grand Theft Auto V folder to your Antivirus exceptions.
If your Antiviruses includes but isn’t limited to: Norton, AVG; McAfee, BitDefender you should remove it and use Microsoft Windows Defender instead.

2. Setting User, SYSTEM and Administrator privileges.
Right click the Grand Theft Auto V folder →
Properties → Security.
In the following list you will see your SYSTEM, Administrator and your own user.
Clicking on these names will reveal their permission level. Make sure that the
SYSTEM, Administrator and your user all have Full Control.

These check marks should be on all three mentioned name groups.
If they are not for one group, simply click on the name then → Edit.

It should look like this now. Simply press OK on both and close the settings.
You should now try to restart RagePluginHook as
Administrator.

3. When trying to edit the above shown screenshot there is a slight possibility of this error happening:

You can click Continue or Cancel, both will have the same effect on your files. Meaning it won’t change permissions.
This is mostly an issue on pre-build computers or laptops with a pre-installed OS.

In order to resolve those permissions and reset them to your Admin / User you need to use commandline.
Open “cmd” on your computer and make sure to run it as Administrator.
Type the following commands and press
Enter after each.

takeown /F <path of your GTA V folder>
takeown /F <path of your GTA V folder> /r /d y
icacls <path of your GTA V folder> /grant Administrators:F
icacls <path of your GTA V folder< /grant Administrators:F /t

It should look like this.

After each command the console may do some work. Do not press any buttons in the meantime.
Once you have successfully entered the last command, you should be able to assign yourself the permissions without an error popping up.

Once done, simply run RagePluginHook as
administrator and let it start up.

RagePluginHook crashes after installing a visual mod / with enbseries.

As of January 3rd 2022 there is an update released for NVE which fixes the startup problems with RagePluginHook. You may use that batch file if you purchased it.

This error usually appears right after installing a visual modification for Grand Theft Auto V. Some visual modifications come with “enbseries”.

If you have the enbseries files in your Grand Theft Auto V folder, you will have to do the following:

1. Launch Grand Theft Auto V without RagePluginHook fully into Story-mode.
2. Once successfully loaded in, pause the game (ESC) and tab (ALT+TAB) out of the game.
3. Run RagePluginHook and successfully load into the game.

LSPD:FR Error & Solutions

I’m stuck on a black LSPD:FR loading screen. How do I fix it?

If it is your first time running LSPD:FR please make sure that you do not load LSPD:FR on startup in the RagePluginHook settings.

Open the RagePluginHook settings by holding
SHIFT after double-clicking the RagePluginHook.exe in your folder.
After the settings have opened, click on the “Plugins” tab in the top bar. Now, choose “Do not load any plugins on startup”.
Once that is completed, click on
Save & Launch in the bottom right corner.

Once you are successfully loaded ingame, press
F4 (Standard) to open the RagePluginHook console.

Type: LoadPlugin LSPD First Response.dll and press Enter. Please wait for LSPD:FR to load and do not spam any keys on your keyboard. It could make the game unresponsive.

LSPD:FR crashes soon after I go on duty. How do I fix it?

LSPD:FR crashing can have almost infinite reasons. To get the best possible help, please send your RagePluginHook.log in one of the Grand Theft Auto V support channels on the RagePluginHook Discord.

But before you do, please do this method, especially if you just installed LSPD:FR without any plugins or additional scripts:

Change the
plugin timeout threshold from 10000 to 60000 in the RagePluginHook.ini file and disable Main.PreloadAllModel in your Grand Theft Auto V/LSPDFR →  LSPDFR.ini:
Main.PreloadAllModels = false

Save the file and launch RagePluginHook.

My LSPD:FR plugins do not show up in the RagePluginHook Plugins tab!

And they are not supposed to. LSPD:FR plugins (Located in Grand Theft Auto V/Plugins/lspdfr) are automatically loaded by LSPD:FR once you go on duty.
They
do not and should not show up in the RagePluginHook Plugins tab. If they do for you, you installed them incorrectly.
Please re-read the Readme or visit one of the support channels on the
RagePluginHook Discord.

As soon as I go on duty I get multiple errors from LSPD:FR plugins stating they are outdated. How do I fix it?

Those are probably plugins created by Albo1125.  These include, but are not limited to: Traffic Policer, Arrest Manager, PoliceSmartRadio, …
As of 2023 you are able to use Albo’s plugins with Aschtar’s updates. Please download them from the
GitHub branch.

Those could also be plugins created by
Bejoijo256. These include, but are not limited to:
StopThePed, UltimateBackup, Compulite, …
As of
28.03.2020 those plugins are updated and work.
His plugins do have a killswitch and will deactivate if you do not update them / Grand Theft Auto V updates.

I’m stuck on the Grand Theft Auto V loading screen with floating letters. How do I fix this?

This error usually stems from an outdated mods folder, an old gameconfig or a corrupted save file.

If there was a Grand Theft Auto V update recently, open OpenIV → Go inside your mods folder → Click on “Edit mode” in the top right corner
A green banner should pop up above and tell you to update the update.rpf. Click on “Update” and OpenIV will move it for you.
Note: You will lose any changes made to the update.rpf archive. This includes but is not limited to:
Visual mods, dlclist.xml changes (Added Dlcpacks), vehicles.meta; handling.meta, …

If
there has not been a recent title update to Grand Theft Auto V, try renaming your mods folder to _mods. If it successfully loads you into the game, you may have installed outdated files. Remove them and try again.

If none of the above worked for you, you may have a corrupted save game. This usually occurs when saving while on duty. Do not save while on duty!
To fix this, you will have to remove your current save files (You can back them up but it’s usually wasted space), located at:

C:\Users\
YOURUSER\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA V\Profiles\RANDOMNUMBER

Save files are named SGTA50000 or above. Remove yours.

Once you have successfully deleted your old save game, head over to
GTA5-Mods 100% Save game file and download it.
It contains two files;
SGTA50015 and SGTA50015.bak. Place them both in the path written above. If that is successfully done, launch the game with RagePluginHook and you should no longer be stuck in an infinite loading screen.

My LSPD:FR crashes with a Network error. What do I do?

If you have this issue and you can find
this line in your RagePluginHook.log:

“[TRACE] Failed to decrypt file:lspdfr/
networking.dat

Followed by your LSPD:FR/Grand Theft Auto V crashing, you have to delete your
networking.dat file, located in Grand Theft Auto V\LSPDFR\.
Once you deleted networking.dat, restart RagePluginHook.

My LSPD:FR crashes with the “The type initializer for 'BGmLa[R,PH-DLf$;>u0Fj3=g'' threw an exception.” error. How can I fix this?

This error is caused by failed or wrong permissions. It usually stems from your Antivirus; f.ex Norton, McAfee, AVG etc., but can also be caused by Microsoft Windows Defender.
In order to fix this issue, please follow the steps below:

The easiest fix would include adding your Grand Theft Auto V folder to your Antivirus exceptions. If you are unsure on how to do so, please Google your Antiviruses exceptions settings.

Sometimes your Antivirus is not the problem but your actual user permissions are.
In this case, you need to adjust folder ownership & permissions for each other manually.
There are multiple ways to do so.

First of, right click your Grand Theft Auto V folder → Properties → Security.
In there you will see your user, SYSTEM and the Administrator group.
For this issue, you will have to change primarily those three permissions.

It will look something like the screenshot shown above.
Click on
SYSTEM, Administrators & your User and make sure they each have ALL checkmarks, as shown above.
Once edited, click “Apply”.

Now press the “Advanced” button right below the checkmarks list.

This list will be presented to you:

First of all, look at the very top of the new window. The user name here is blacked out.
Please validate that it is YOUR USER at that spot or your laptop’s name.
If it is something else, change the Owner via Administrator rights.

Press OK, then launch RagePluginHook. Load LSPD:First Response.
You’re now good to go.

My LSPD:First Response crashes and I see an “mscorlib” error in the RagePluginHook.log. What do I do?

This means that the .NET Framework on your machine is outdated or needs to be updated. This can be achieved by doing Windows Updates frequently or downloading the needed version from here:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=863265

Simply restart your computer after the installation has finished.

For any individual crashes with or without LSPD:FR please consult the support channels on the RagePluginHook Discord.

My LSPD:FR crashes with a “SlimDX” error. What can I do?

The “SlimDX” error has been around for years. It occurs under very different circumstances and has an almost limitless amount of possible solutions. In the list below there are three sections of possible solutions to fix it. Make sure to complete them all before retrying.

1. Add your Grand Theft Auto V folder to your Antivirus exceptions.

2. Delete SlimDX from your GTAV folder and restart your PC.

3. Download RagePluginHook and put the .zip in your GTA V folder.

4. Click "Extract Here."

If that doesn't help you; try the following:

Make sure you have all of the requirements installed. If it says you already have them installed; reinstall them to be sure.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48130

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26999

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52685

And if that still doesn't work;

Try a clean reinstall of your GPU driver. Depending on which GPU you have, visit the nVidia or AMD Radeon websites.

Error 7002.1 - Reverting Grand Theft Auto V

RAGEPluginHook used to provide the option to backup and revert your game files. This option allowed you to revert back to an older version of Grand Theft Auto V if an update released and RAGEPluginHook or ScripthookV have not updated yet. You were able to still play with an older, supported version of the game.

Rockstar Games patched this method in December 2021 with the release of Title Update
1.58.
The startup prompt to backup your game files with RAGEPluginHook was then removed with version
1.91 in 2022. The ability to revert via RagePluginHook was removed with version 1.118.
Reverting will cause the
7002.1 error in Rockstar Game Launcher and prevent Grand Theft Auto V from working.

Rockstar Games Launcher checks hashes of specific files, including its own Launcher and uses these to verify if the game has been tampered with. In this case, both Grand Theft Auto V files and Socialclub files have been reverted.
The Rockstar Games Launcher will show you the error
7002.1 and prevent the game from launching.

In order to fix this error,
you simply need to update your game and create a null-standard.
This means the game will update to the latest (unsupported) version.

In order to avoid the 7002.1 error, and still play an older version of RAGEPluginHook you require a completely separate installation of Grand Theft Auto V.
The best case would be to have both folders in the same location and simply switch their names.

Grand Theft Auto V is the original installation name and therefore the folder Rockstar Launcher uses & reads in.

Grand Theft Auto - Vanilla is the backup folder and contains a vanilla Grand Theft Auto V Installation. This folder will be used to update the game while the “Grand Theft Auto V”-folder remains not updated and untouched.

All you need to do is switch folder names before the update (GTAV to GTAV - Modded || GTAV - Vanilla to GTAV), run the game once to let Rockstar Games Launcher confirm the hashes and then rename the folders back. (GTAV to GTAV - Vanilla and GTAV Modded to GTAV)

Please note that the 7002.1 error can also have other causes, like no valid sound device. Please properly read the error first. Thank you.

Installing Replace-Cars with OpenIV for GTA V

Replace cars replace an already existing car ingame. Those don’t have to be police vehicles, it can be any ingame car available..
Before you start putting modified cars into your game, you will need to install / setup your mods folder and a program to edit game files;
OpenIV. Please note: This is a simple tutorial and will not cover any kind of FiveM-cars.

Step 1: Create a mods folder. It should be in your Grand Theft Auto V main folder.

Step 2: Setting up your mods folder. For this step, simply copy (not drag!) your update folder into your mods folder.
Note: This can take some time. The update folder is (as of now) 35.2GB. Make sure you have that kind of space free on your drive.

Step 3: Installing OpenIV. Head over to their website located right here.
Download & Install OpenIv wherever you please. Once finished, open the program and locate your Grand Theft Auto V folder.
You are now set & done.

Step 4: Identifying if your car is a replace or add-on car. This one is quite simple and only requires you to read.
If you download a car from LCPDFR.com, you can simply scroll to the bottom of the page and check which files are included in the file. Here you can already see the name of the vehicle and therefore know if it’s a
replacement or add-on car.

This example car is an ELS (Emergency Lightning System) and a replacement for the Police2 slot.

If you are downloading from GTA5-mods or any other website you may have to download the file first and then open the download to see which option it is.

Some creators let you know in the description, so make sure to read it.

Step 5: Installing a replacement car. Typically, replacement vehicles always go into the latest “Patchday”. That means, the latest update for Grand Theft Auto V that brought cars / changed them.
If Rockstar Games updates Grand Theft Auto V with new cars or makes changes to existing ones, it will overwrite older dlcpack / Patchdays.
As of the
14th of July 2026 the latest Patchday is: patch2026_01. This is where you will install your replacement vehicles.

You can find it here:

Once you are in the latest Patchday, you locate to here:

mods/update/x64/dlcpacks/LATEST PATCHDAY/ dlc.rpf/x64/levels/gta5/vehicles.rpf

Once you are in the latest available Patchday make sure you turn on “Edit Mode” to be able to work. It’s right next to the path above.

It will turn blue if it’s activated.

Open the downloaded vehicle file and drag & drop the files into the vehicles.rpf.

Note: if you ran OpenIV as an Administrator you will not be able to do this. To import files simply put the files from your download onto your Desktop, press the green + (shown in the picture above) and import the files.

Note: If you are using 7IP or any other zip program except for WinRAR you may not be able to drag & drop. Follow the steps from the note above.

After you successfully imported the files into the latest Patchday’s vehicles.rpf; you need to install two very important .asis to be able to load your mods folder. Go to Tools → Asi Manager and click on “INSTALL” for ASI LOADER and OpenIV.ASI.

They should turn green.

You can now start Grand Theft Auto V (with RagePluginHook or without) and test your car ingame.

If you chose to start it with RagePluginHook: Simply press F4 and type in:
Spawn police2 and then press enter. (For example.)

Enjoy!

Installing Add-on-Cars with OpenIV in GTA V

Add-on cars are different from replacement cars. Like the name suggests, these add extra slots to the already existing ingame vehicles. Add-on cars don’t have to be police vehicles.
You can only spawn them using the RagePluginHook console (standard F4) or a Trainer. AI won’t drive around in these cars unless you add them manually to the games popgroups.ymt file.

Step 1: The first thing you have to check when installing Add-on cars is if they already come with their own DLCPack or not.
Some add-on cars come with a folder (f.ex) lspdpack. If that is the case, it has its own DLCPack and you only have to insert it to the game files and add it to dlclist.xml.
If it comes with files (f.ex) camaro.ytd; camaro.ytf etc and vehicles.meta files (optional) you have to add it to a DLC Pack.

The author Albo1125 has created an amazing pack where you can simply drag & drop Add-on cars and put them all in one folder. Vehicles.meta; carvariation.meta and handling.meta files included. It’s called the MODDING DLC PACK.

Step 2: This section is divided by if your Add-on cars are separate files or if they come with their own DLC Pack.

If they come with their own DLC Pack: Locate to your DLCpacks folder with OpenIV:

mods/update/x64/dlcpack/

Create a new folder and either name it the way the Readme says, or choose your own name. Once you have created the folder, open it.
In the downloaded carpack there should be a dlc.rpf. You need to drag this
dlc.rpf into the folder you just created in dlcpacks. Once you have done so, you need to locate to:

mods/update/update.rpf/common/data

And right click on dlclist.xml → Edit. A new window will pop up. Scroll to the bottom of that window.

This is how my modified dlclist.xml looks. You can simply add your DLC pack using the following line:

<Item>dlcpacks:/YOUR DLC PACK NAME/</Item>

Note: If you have uppercase letters, use uppercase. The name has to match the folder in dlcpacks.

For some DLC Packs you have to add them to extrametadata.xml’s as well. But that is not necessary anymore. You can now go ingame and spawn your add-on vehicles using a Trainer or the RagePluginHook console. (F4 standard)

Important Note: For costume dlc packs you need a custom gameconfig, heap and packfile limit adjuster.

If they come with seperate files: Make sure you have the MODDING DLC from Albo1125 installed into your mods folder prior.

Once you have successfully done that, locate the vehicles.rpf from the MODDING DLC. It’s located at:

mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\MODDING\dlc.rpf\x64\levels\gta5\vehicles\vehicles.rpf\

Here you can now drag & drop (or using the green +) your .ytd and .ytf model files.
It doesn’t matter if the car is a police slot. It works with all cars, weapons and even peds. (Different .rpf archive then, of course.)

Once you installed the model files you now have to create a
vehicles.meta and carvariation.meta for your cars. If you are not installing police vehicles, you can skip the carvariation file. (Still recommended for lights though.)
In some cases you also have to create a custom handling.meta for your car. It’s not necessary for most of them, since they mostly use vanilla handling ID’s.

How to create/install a custom vehicles.meta for your add-on car:

If your add-on car comes with a vehicles.meta, it’s fairly simple. Open the vehicles.meta included in the download and locate the car you want to install. If it’s only one car, you can copy the entire text.

If the car comes with an entire vehicles.meta, you need to find the slot of the vehicle and copy it. If you are unsure which parts to select, please look at this .gif which focuses on the police2 slot:

Note: A slot always starts with <Item> and ends with </Item>. Of course every single line will start with this, so please make sure you are selecting the correct ones.

Usually a slot will start with the opening <Item> tag and the next line will be the <modelName>.
Usually a slot will end with the ending </Item> tag and a new opening </Item> tag for the next vehicle.

Once you have successfully copied the slot, simply open the vehicles.meta in the MODDING DLC pack. It’s located at:

\mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\MODDING\dlc.rpf\common\data\levels\gta5

Right click on the vehicles.meta → Edit.

In the middle you will find a blank spot with a little comment line telling you to put it there. Simple paste the just copied text below that comment.

Once you have pasted your text, please locate <audioNameHash> at the top of the slot.

If it looks the exact same as in the screenshot above, you will have to change it.
This applies to Add-ons ONLY. Please don’t change this for replacement vehicles unless instructed to!
It should look something like this:

Note: If you change a police slot's audioNameHash to a non-police sound, you will have the ingame radio enabled for that police vehicle. This may cause issues with keybindings.

Save the file.

You have finished installing a custom vehicles.meta for that Add-on police car.

If you have to create a custom vehicles.meta because none are available for your car or you are turning a replacement car into an add-on vehicle; simply take the replacements car vehicles.meta slot and change the first entries:

  1. modelName
  2. txdName
  3. HandlingID (Choose a vanilla one if you didn’t create/have a costum one)
  4. gameName
  5. audioNameHash

How to install/create a custom carvariations.meta:

The steps are exactly the same as creating/installing a custom vehicles.meta. The only difference is the path. You will find the MODDING DLC’s carvariation.meta here:

\mods\update\x64\dlcpacks\MODDING\dlc.rpf\common\data

The steps are exactly the same as the vehicles.meta above. The only difference may be that included in the MODDING DLC you will find a template for a carvariations.meta.

If your add-on doesn’t come with a carvariation.meta or if you are turning a replacement car into an add-on, you should use this template, change the name at the top, and place the text in your carvariations.meta pointed to in this text.

Note: If you don’t install a carvariations.meta for your add-ons you will not be able to stop cars in LSPD:FR. This may also affect ELS and light-function.

You have now finished creating/installing a carvariations.meta for your Add-on car.

You can now go ingame and spawn your add-on vehicles using a Trainer or the RagePluginHook console. (F4 standard)

Important Note: For custom dlc packs you need a custom gameconfig, heap and packfile limit adjuster.

Changing the load order for DLCpacks

This section is constructed for those who would like to change the significance of a load-order for a dlcpack.
In the latest update for Grand Theft Auto V
Patchday23ng was introduced.
Unlike the Patchdays before Patchday23ng was
unable to replace all vanilla cars, and only overwrote a few slots. It is considered a “Patch-dlcpack”. This, for people who start out modding or people who just like to place cars in their latest Patchday, can become an issue.

In order to fix this, you will need to make a small edit to the
setup2.xml found in the dlc.rpf of each Patchday. You will only have to edit the Patchday you would like to overwrite the other Patchdays with. Usually, the latest.

Note: Depending on which Patchday you choose to load last, vehicle issues can occur. Rockstar Games have set their load-order for a good reason.

Note2: Doing so with Patchday23 causes no issues.

Note 3: This is advanced .xml editing. Please only edit this if you know what you are doing.

1. Locate the dlc.rpf of the Patchday you want to edit; in this example Patchday23ng.

mods/update/x64/dlcpacks/Patchday23ng/dlc.rpf/

2. Right click the setup2.xml → Edit.

3. Locating what is being loaded & how to change it.

Once you have opened setup2.xml you should receive a list of all the different groups available. It should look something like the list screenshotted below:

The only thing we are focusing on is the .rpf’s and in which groups they are being loaded. As you can see above, Patchday23ng’s entire dlc.rpf is being loaded only in

GROUP_UPDATE_STREAMING

This means it’s perceived as an update to an older Patchday and won’t overwrite any files, just add to the existing ones.
If you open the
content.xml above the setup2.xml in your Patchday folder, you should locate lines like those near the bottom:

This shows you which files are included in
CCS_PATCHDAY_23_NG_STREAMING.
As shown above, it includes the vehicles.rpf, in which we replace our vehicles.
You can close the context.xml,
nothing will be edited in it.

4. Changing the load-order of the Patchday folder.

In the
setup2.xml copy the line that includes the vehicles.rpf in the content.xml.
In our example, it’s
CCS_PATCHDAY23_NG_STREAMING.

Make sure you copy, then remove it from any group, if it’s existent before placing it in

GROUP_STARTUP.

Now, we have to add <Item>CCS_PATCHDAY23_NG_STREAMING</Item>, the line we copied earlier, to the GROUPS_STARTUP.

Make sure to include the <ContentChangeSets> and </ContentChangeSets> tags.

Now press “
Save”.
You can now safely put your replacement cars into the latest
update Patchday.

Thanks to @Pursuit for making me dig this deep at 3am and leading me to eventually finding the solution to this. Wouldn’t have come this far without you! -Stranger

My installed replacement cars look purple or have weird looking textures. What can I do to fix this?

This issue is caused by installing Natural Vision: Remastered.
When installing
NVR, it will create a folder in dlcpacks folder which is called NVR_emissive.

In order to remove the purple / weird textures on your replacement vehicles, either remove the NVR_emissive folder in mods/update/x64/dlcpacks.
Or remove the
nvr_emissive line from mods/update/update.rpf/common/data’s dlclist.xml.

And example of said purple / weird glitching textures:

How do I install a carcols file for Grand Theft Auto V?

Some cars (mostly Non-ELS cars) come with a file called “
carcols”. It either comes as a .meta or .ymt file.

This is an example for a FiveM-Ready Non-ELS car.

If it comes as a .meta file simply open it with Notepad++ or Editor.
There is a <
Lights> and <Sirens> section. Usually <Lights> is empty, since Non-ELS cars mostly use the <Sirens> section of the carcols. So you can ignore it if it’s empty.
This is what an
empty <Lights> section looks like:

You can easily see it’s opened <Lights> and instantly closed again </Lights>. Therefor it is empty and we can safely ignore it.

Moving on to the <Sirens> section. There will be
two in total.
<Sirens> and <sirens>.
The difference here is that the <
Sirens> section with the capital S at the start opens the small s <sirens> section, which has each individual light for the car setup.

Now, below the <
Sirens> tag you will find an id. That id is unique and can not exist twice.

It assigned a specific lightning pattern to an id. User created id’s are usually long, random generated numbers so they will not overlap with each other and no modders create / upload the same one. You will be able to easily tell them apart from the original id’s.

In order to add that custom <
Siren> section to your carcols.ymt; copy the following:
The entire section between the opening tag <
Item> and </Item> closing tag is being copied.
In between are all the small <
sirens>.

Note: Do not copy the <Sirens> and </Sirens> tag into the carcols.ymt!
Note2: Unless you are editing it for your FiveM server!

With the <Item> and </Item> section copied, locate the carcols.ymt in your Mods folder with OpenIV at:

Grand Theft Auto V\update\update.rpf\x64\data

Right click the carcols.ymt -> Edit. Make sure Edit mode is selected in OpenIV.

After Edit mode is enabled in OpenIV; right click -> Edit the carcols.ymt.

This will open an editable version of the carcols.ymt.
Now, locate to the <
Sirens> section in the carcols.ymt. In order to do this, simply press CTRL+F in the opened document.

The search-bar in OpenIV.

Type in </Sirens>. This should take you to the bottom of the last entry of the Sirens for Grand Theft Auto V.

Make sure to locate to the upper case letter S </Sirens>, since the OpenIV search doesn’t differentiate between </Sirens> and </sirens>.

Search results for </Sirens>.

As you can see, even the </sirens> get marked in this carcols.ymt despite the search saying </Sirens>. Make sure you have </Sirens> selected.

With </Sirens> in view, move your cursor one line above and create a single, empty space.

Adding a space after the last entry in the carcols.ymt.

In the now empty space, paste the <Item> text that was copied earlier.
Like so:

Pasting the new Siren ID.

As visible in the GIF, OpenIV & the carcols.ymt may freeze during the paste process. It’s an enormous amount of text, therefor it may take some time.

Please don’t randomly click anywhere and just let it load until the text is being pasted!

Once done; save the carcols.ymt.
Make sure that the </Item> is right above </Sirens>

Finished pasting of the new Sirens ID.

Simply click “
Save” in the bottom right corner.
You have successfully edited the carcols.ymt and added the required Siren for your Non-ELS / FiveM ready car to work.

New police vehicles do not have liveries - How do I fix it?

With Patchday mp2023_02 and Patch2023_01 new police vehicles have been introduced to the game. Those vehicles have not only new sirenID and LightID’s, but also a different carvariations.meta.

Due to this difference, exchanging them with replacement vehicles can cause them to appear black or display corrupted liveries.

The fix for this is rather simple. You can change the sirenID to their default values later on.

Locate the carvariations.meta for the new police vehicle.

  • For the police vehicles in Patch2023_01 you can find it in mp2023_02. (Do not replace vehicles here, only edit the carvariations.meta)
  • For the police vehicles in Patch2024_01 you can find them in mp2024_01.
  • For the police vehicles in Patch2024_02 you can find them in mp2024_02.

Right click the carvariations.meta in the given path and press Edit:

mods/update/x64/dlcpacks/DLC PACK OF THE VEHICLE/dlc.rpf/common/data

Highlight the police vehicle you want to edit. The entire section for a vehicle is referred to as a “slot”. This is what a slot looks like:

The end of the slot is usually identified by the “SirenSetting value=”0””

Once you have highlighted the slot, simply replace it with a vanilla template of a police vehicle by pasting it.
You can get those templates from other cars, or like in this case, from
Albo1125’s MODDING DLC.

Once you have replaced the text, press “SAVE” and you’re done.
