A Map of diffuse interstellar bands

By analyzing the light of hundreds of thousands of stars, galaxies and quasars, our group has created the largest map revealing the distribution of Diffuse Interstellar Bands in the Milky Way. These absorption features trace the distribution of unidentified molecules in the interstellar medium. This map was unveiled at the 225th meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle.
